About 70,000 civil servants of the Autonomous Community and its public companies will begin to receive from January the new residence bonus, a measure which progressively equates their remunerations with those received by the public employees of the Canary Islands archipelago. The Govern maintains this commitment in spite of the fact that the extension of the Budget limits the incorporation of new salary complements, except for the general annual increase fixed by the State.
The absence of new autonomic accounts complicates the ability to introduce improvements in remuneration not foreseen in the budget extension, but the Executive of Marga Prohens assures that it will seek the necessary economic availability to comply with the agreement signed a few months ago with the trade union organizations. This pact contemplates an investment of 240 million euros, which will be deployed progressively until 2028.
When the process is completed, public employees will receive 206 euros per month in Mallorca, 410 euros in Menorca and Ibiza and 615 euros in Formentera, amounts that represent a very significant increase compared to the current bonuses. In Mallorca, the complement oscillates today between 47.58 and 110.56 euros, while in Menorca and Ibiza it goes from 65.38 to 122.4 euros. The biggest jump will take place in Formentera, where workers will go from these same figures to 615 euros per month, reaching the maximum bracket equivalent to that of the Canary Islands.
The incorporation of these new amounts will have an added cost of about 80 million in 2026, within an already stressed financial framework. According to the Conselleria d’Hisenda, this increase is assumed in a context in which the Government will not be able to dispose of the 361 million of additional expenditure foreseen in the budgets initially designed before their parliamentary rejection.
The budgetary prorogation forces Marga Prohens to manage the next fiscal year through credit modifications to meet new commitments, such as the equalization of the residence bonus. Despite the restrictions, the Executive maintains its intention to apply the calendar agreed with the unions and guarantee that Balearic public employees will reach in 2028 the same level of remuneration for residence as those of the Canary Islands.
