The Local Police of Sant Antoni de Portmany has carried out during the month of December a refresher course in the use of the expandable baton, also known as telescopic baton, aimed at the entire staff of the body.
The purpose of the training is to ensure that all officers are properly trained in the use of this regulatory police instrument, which is included in their individual equipment, and to ensure the appropriate use of force during interventions.
This action is part of the commitment of the City Council of Sant Antoni with the continuous training of agents, considered a key tool to strengthen the safety of both police officers and citizens, as well as to ensure effective interventions and adjusted to the current legality.
The course was given by two officers from the police force itself, who have the qualifications and accreditation required in the Balearic Islands for this type of training, which allows them to take advantage of the specialized knowledge within the police force itself.
The program has been developed from a theoretical-practical perspective, addressing the current regulations and jurisprudence related to the use of the expandable baton, as well as the general principles governing the use of force by law enforcement officers.
The City Council has indicated that throughout 2026 it is planned to continue with new training courses in different police tools and means, including the expandable baton, the firearm and the electric control device (TASER), with the aim of further improving the preparation of the staff.
and preparation of the workforce.
