From the colloquial Ibicencan expression ‘Baix del cel’. (Under the sky) takes its name the new exhibition of the painter Diana Bustamante in Santa Eulària. It is the second time that Bustamante shows her work in this space where she already exhibited in 2014.
The name of the exhibition, “Baix del cel”, presents the sky of Ibiza as a common thread and is an excuse for the creative development of her work, in order to show the island landscapes that the artist reproduces.
Thus, the exhibition includes a series of works created recently and for the purpose of the exhibition. Among the approximately 30 pieces that compose it, the following can be appreciated several marinas of the city of Ibiza, different views of churches such as Sant Jordi, Sant Carles, Sant Joan, several perspectives of the emblematic Puig de Missa (with which he pays tribute to the village of the river where he grew up) and, of course, some other iconic landscape of the island, such as Es Vedrà or Cala Benirrás.
In addition to the landscapes, in “Baix del cel” There is room for other types of themes, such as representations of plant motifs, fruits and flowers: Bougainvillea, Baladre, the Pic fig tree, magranes… all through the particular prism of Bustamante. And as a novelty, the Ibizan presents a pair of paintings dedicated to landscapes of the interior of the Pitiusa countryside.
As usual in her work, Bustamante seeks with her works the interaction of the viewer, turning the contemplation of each piece into a game of back and forth, in which each person must complete with his gaze (through the color spots) recognizable landscapes and other elements to obtain from the impression of the strokes on his retina, the personal memory of the everyday and nearby places that the author lives and likes to represent. elements to obtain from the impression of the strokes on his retina, the personal memory of everyday and nearby places of Ibiza that the author lives and likes to represent.
All the pieces are made with his characteristic color palette and a strongly consolidated and recognizable style, somewhere between figuration and abstraction, using mainly acrylic and collage with Japanese paper and other types of different textures.
