The port of Ibiza has shown in 2023 an outstanding increase in its revenues, reaching a total of 33,865,117.63 euros, which represents an increase of 32% over the 25,626,626.39 euros obtained in 2022.
This growth not only reflects the intense tourist and commercial activity experienced by the island, but also positions the port as one of the most important strategic assets within the network managed by the Balearic Islands Port Authority (APB).
This increase in revenues is largely the result of a rise in the special use of public domain and activity fees derived from concessions and authorizations.
Both concepts play a key role in the management of port spaces and their commercial exploitation, allowing the APB to capitalize port infrastructures in an efficient manner.
Detail of revenues
The breakdown of the port of Ibiza’s port of Ibiza reflects that fees for special use of the public domain have generated a significant portion of revenue in Ibiza.
In 2023, the port recorded €16,500,000 in this section alone, compared to €14,000,000 the previous year, representing a growth of almost 18%.
This increase is largely due to the growing demand for moorings and commercial space, driven by the continued increase in tourism and the arrival of large vessels, both recreational and commercial.
Activity fees, which cover concessions and authorizations to businesses to operate premises and services within the port, have also been a key driver of economic growth in Ibiza.
In 2023, income from these activities reached 19 million euros, showing an increase over the previous year’s 16 million euros.
The port of La Savina
The port of La Savina, in Formentera, although more modest in terms of total revenues, has shown stable growth.
In 2023, revenues at La Savina reached €4,672,808.25, compared to €3,738,699.74 in 2022, equivalent to an increase of 25%.
Although the figures are lower compared to Ibiza, this port plays a crucial role in inter-island connectivity and tourist flow to Formentera, which continues to be a popular destination among visitors seeking a more exclusive and quiet environment.
In La Savina, occupancy rates for the use of port spaces and concessions related to commercial activities have also contributed significantly to this growth.
The income generated by these concepts in 2023 was approximately 2,200,000 euros, a considerable figure for the port’s infrastructure, which is smaller compared to that of Ibiza.
APB’s economic balance sheet
In global terms, APB’s total revenue in 2023 reached 105,180,097.71 euros, an increase of 21% compared to the 86,801,418.42 euros obtained in 2022.
Port fees continue to be the main source of income, representing more than 60% of the total generated in the ports managed by APB, while concessions and commercial activities within the ports have continued to increase their relevance within the economic balance of the entity.
Despite the growth in port revenues, the Balearic Islands Port Authority has recorded a decrease in its cash flow, which at the end of 2023 stood at 139 million euros, compared to 163 million euros at the end of the previous year. This adjustment in the cash balance responds to the investments made by the APB in the improvement of infrastructures and modernization of port services, with the aim of increasing the competitiveness and capacity of the ports to manage the growing flow of passengers and goods.
