The PSOE of Santa Eulària has denounced this Thursday the situation of “deterioration and neglect” that, they claim, presents the Plaza de Jesús and the playground located in the same space, considered the center of the social life of the town. The socialist municipal group has launched strong criticism about the lack of maintenance and cleanliness in the area, stressing that this situation affects both recreational spaces for children and facilities for young people and adults. In a statement, the local PSOE has expressed its concern about the state of the different areas of the square, which includes the Punt Jove, areas for playing table tennis and basketball, a free library and a picnic area. The formation has pointed out that, although there are budget items allocated for the maintenance of these spaces, the resources are not invested in tangible improvements for the community.
Complaints of neglect and lack of investment
According to the Municipal Socialist Groupthe lack of maintenance in the playground is reflected in the broken elements that, in many cases, are not repaired or are directly removed without offering alternatives. “The lighting is also deficient; most of the streetlights are fused and the space becomes dark and unwelcoming at dusk,” they point out in the complaint. As for cleanliness, the socialists claim that the square is usually dirty, with waste and cigarette butts scattered in the sandy flowerbeds. The group assures that these problems of cleanliness and maintenance have been a constant and stress the importance of allocating the necessary resources to ensure that the space is safe and pleasant for neighbors of all ages.
Criticism of budget management
The PSOE has also highlighted that in recent years budget items have been earmarked for the Jesus playground, with up to 200,000 euros allocated in the 2023 budget. However, the group denounces that these items are finally modified and allocated for other purposes without the planned improvements to the square being carried out. “It is a ghost item, it appears in every budget, but suddenly disappears, and year after year the same thing happens,” they have said, demanding that the mayor of Santa Eulària, Carmen Ferrer, respond to the needs of the residents of Jesus.
Request for the revitalization of the square.
On the other hand, the socialist group has also claimed in plenary the tender of the cafeteria located in the farmhouse of Can Seni, next to Punt Jove, in order to revitalize the square and take advantage of the facilities already built. This space, which is part of the 2019 reform project and has an area of 67.35 square meters, is still not in operation. According to the PSOE, this tender would bring added value and contribute to making the area a more attractive and useful meeting point for the community. In response to these demands, the PSOE urges the City Council to allocate the necessary resources for the maintenance and improvement of the Plaza de Jesús and to comply with the allocated budget items.
