(Europa Press). The Queen Sofia Foundation will auction on November 21 in New York the painting ‘Still Life’, by the painter Fernando Botero, in order to support the work of the Food Banks and, in particular, those operating in the autonomous communities that have suffered the effects of the DANA. Queen Sofia visited the work at the Sotheby’s auction house in New York, as the closing event of the solidarity campaign ‘The message behind Botero’s painting’. The exhibition was physically exhibited at the Centro Centro space (Madrid) from November 23 to January 4, 2024. The work consists of two parts: side A, which presents the original painting by the Colombian artist that is now being auctioned, ‘Still Life’, a still life that portrays a table overflowing with food; and side B, which thanks to the intervention of photographic retouching, reveals the opposite reality: the food shortage that many families face, highlighting the work done by the Food Banks for those who need it most. This initiative arose as a result of the donation of the work ‘Still Life’, made by Fernando Botero to the Queen Sofia Foundation before his death and carried out by his children following his will. This response from the painter and his family followed the Foundation’s request to collaborate with its program to help Food Banks.
