Finally, the City Council of Ibiza has decided to bring forward the Epiphany parade to the afternoon of Sunday January 4 due to the worsening weather forecast for tomorrow Monday, the day on which the parade is traditionally held, according to the forecast of the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet).
The procession of Their Majesties the Three Kings will arrive at the port of Ibiza at 18.00 hours and will begin its journey through the main streets of the city to Vara de Rey. More than 600 people will participate in the parade, including dancers, royal pages, helpers and floats, and 3,000 kilos of candy will be distributed, twice as much as last year.
The municipal decision has been taken after analyzing the weather forecast for today and tomorrow. According to Aemet, this Sunday rains are expected during the morning in Ibiza, which will subside throughout the day to disappear in the afternoon, which has led the Consistory to bet on that time slot as the most viable option to celebrate the parade. On the contrary, the forecast for tomorrow Monday is more unfavorable, with a higher probability of precipitation and a more unstable scenario.
Meteorological warning and Meteobal Plan
In this context, the Emergency Service 112 has activated the Severity Index 0 (IG0) of the Meteobal Plan in the Balearic Islands as a whole, in response to the yellow warning for rain issued by Aemet. The warning affects mainly Mallorca and Menorca, while Ibiza and Formentera are outside the areas with the highest risk, although the recommendation to exercise extreme caution is maintained.
Emergencies have asked the population to take preventive measures in case of rain, both at home and while driving, and to call 112 in case of emergency.
Scheduling pending weather evolution
For the moment, the rest of the municipalities of the island maintain the program scheduled for Monday, although changes are not ruled out throughout the day depending on the evolution of the weather.
Despite the advance of the parade, the City Council of Ibiza has confirmed that tomorrow Monday, from 18.00 hours, the Three Kings will receive the children in the Christmas tent of Vara de Rey, with the aim of maintaining its presence on the eve of the day most awaited by the little ones.
