A robbery at a car wash in Can Bufí, Ibiza, has provoked a flood of reactions among neighbors after going viral on social networks. A woman reported that the backpack of her partner, a worker at the establishment 20Twenty Car Wash, was stolen and decided to make the incident public by accompanying her message with images captured by the security cameras of the premises.
“Thieves in Ibiza, be very careful,” he wrote in his November 1 post, which was shared dozens of times in just a few minutes. The message included fragments of the video where two young men were seen approaching the laundry room and making gestures before leaving the place with the backpack.
Recognized by cameras and detained after complaint
The publication generated an avalanche of messages from citizens who claimed to recognize the people involved. “Thanks to the images and the diffusion, many people began to write to us with names, surnames and places they frequent,” Camila Ferré, the complainant, told La Voz de Ibiza.
Among the messages received, even a nurse at the Can Misses hospital claimed to have seen them robbing patients and workers on different occasions. With all the information gathered, the couple went to the National Police, where the agents confirmed that they had identified the suspects after reviewing the video.
According to the victim, one of the individuals was arrested the same day the complaint was filed, and the case is awaiting trial. The victim, however, has not been able to recover the backpack or her belongings.
“Hopefully this will be echoed and once and for all they will end up in jail,” said the woman, visibly indignant.
The role of social networks
This episode once again highlights the role of social networks in the identification of suspected criminals by citizens. In this case, the publication not only allowed the information to circulate quickly, but also facilitated the location of the suspects.
The National Police, however, recommends always contacting the authorities first before releasing images or personal data, to avoid violating rights and to ensure that investigations follow the proper legal channels.
