The Ibiza Town Hall has put out to tender the construction of the Es Gorg low-demand center for an amount of 5,121,395.86 euros (VAT excluded). Companies interested in executing this project will be able to submit their bids telematically until March 17, and the expected period for the completion of the works will be 12 months.
The center will be financed by the Consell Insular de Ibiza, thanks to an agreement signed with the Consistory on December 5. This project will provide a structural response to the situation of socially excluded people who lack accommodation on the island.
A priority project for the City Council
The councilor of Social Welfare of Ibiza, Lola Penín, has highlighted the importance of this tender, not only for the city, but for the whole island. “At the beginning of the mandate we set as a priority to unlock the center for vulnerable people in Es Gorg and we started working hard,” she explained.
“After too many years of delay, Es Gorg will soon be a reality. The capital of Ibiza will not leave behind people in exclusion and this center will mean a second chance for many groups,” added Penín, who thanked the effort of the technicians involved in the project.
This is what the Es Gorg low demand center will be like.
The future center will be a social resource for homeless people or those at risk of exclusion, offering them temporary housing and support for their reintegration.
The building will consist of three floors, with the following characteristics:
- First floor (992.2 m²): Reception, assembly hall, workshop classroom, day center, dining room, common room, cloakroom, laundry, kitchen, separate bathrooms for men and women, dressing rooms, offices for tutors and facilities room.
- Exterior: An area for urban vegetable gardens, kennel, rest areas, parking and access to services will be provided .
- Second floor (929 m²): It will house the bedrooms, community bathrooms, administrative work areas, offices, meeting room, storage area and area for staff and monitors.
A response to the social emergency in Ibiza
The implementation of this center is a crucial step in the social policy of the City Council of Ibiza, in a context where access to housing and care for the homeless have been two of the main challenges of the municipality. With the tender already published, it is expected that the works will begin in the coming months so that the center will be a reality in 2026.
