The Second Section of the Provincial Court of Palma will address this week two trials for sex crimes committed on the island of Ibiza, in which the victims are a two-year-old baby and a ten-year-old girl. Both defendants are facing requests for four years in prison formulated by the Prosecutor’s Office.
A kiss to a baby on an Ibiza beach
The first of the cases will be tried on Thursday, December 12, at 9:45 a.m., when the pre-trial hearing will be held against a man accused of kissing a baby on the cheek on a beach in Ibiza.
According to the indictment, the events occurred around 12:00 noon on July 19 last year. The man would have approached the girl, barely two years old, daughter of the complainant, took her in his arms and kissed her cheek, allegedly “with the intention of satisfying his libidinous desires”, according to the Prosecutor’s Office.
The mother reacted immediately, snatching her daughter from the defendant’s arms and moving to another spot on the beach. The prosecution asks for the defendant four years in prison and the payment of 5,000 euros in compensation for a crime of sexual assault.
Accused of abusing his 10-year-old niece
The second trial will be held on Tuesday, December 10, also in the Court of Palma. In this case, the accused is a man who allegedly sexually abused his ten-year-old niece, taking advantage of the fact that they lived together at the same address in Ibiza.
According to the prosecutor’s account, the events took place in October 2022, when the defendant allegedly approached the minor and touched her. The girl, who subsequently received psychological treatment, recounted the facts that gave rise to the judicial investigation.
The Public Prosecutor’s Office also requests four years of imprisonment for the accused for the crime of sexual abuse.
Judicial context
Both proceedings, which will be heard by the same section of the Provincial Court, focus on two different episodes that occurred in Ibiza and on the protection of minors from sexual crimes, one of the areas of greatest judicial sensitivity.
The trials are still in the pre-trial phase, in which evidence, testimonies and possible agreements between the parties will be confirmed before the formal opening of the sessions.
