The First Section of the Provincial Court of the Balearic Islands celebrates this Thursday, February 13, the trial against two men accused of growing and selling marijuana in Ibiza.
According to the Public Prosecutor’s Office, the defendants, of Italian nationality, were involved in the cultivation of cannabis with the aim of distributing it to third parties.
The discovery of the plantation and other substances
The facts for which they will be tried date back to 2021, when the authorities carried out a search at the home where the defendants resided. During the intervention, the agents found a marijuana plantation, as well as cannabis resin and ketamine. . They also found cash, which reinforced the hypothesis that the suspects were involved in drug trafficking.
In addition, various elements used for the cultivation of cannabis, such as ventilation systems, light bulbs and fertilizers, were also seized at the home, which shows that the activity was organized and aimed at large-scale production.
A prison sentence and a heavy fine
The Public Prosecutor’s Office considers that the facts constitute a crime against public health, for which it requests a four-year prison sentence for each of the accused, as well as a fine of 60,000 euros.
The trial will determine the responsibility of the defendants in this operation, which is part of the authorities’ efforts to combat drug trafficking on the island.
