Agents of the National Police have arrested José María Pavón Pereira, one of the fugitives included in the campaign ‘The 10 most wanted’, wanted for two crimes of murder for which he faces a sentence of 41 years in prison. The arrest, which has been recorded on video, took place last Monday after locating the fugitive hiding in an isolated warehouse in the surroundings of the municipality of Cartaya (Huelva).
Pavón Pereira was being sought for the murder of two men, whose bodies were found in 2019 inside a well of a farm in the town of Huelva. According to the investigation, one of the victims presented a shotgun shot in the chest, while the other died after receiving multiple blows with a blunt object, facts for which he is charged with a crime of murder with malice aforethought and another with overkill.
As reported by the National Police, the investigation was reactivated last year after a judicial complaint was issued for the location and arrest of the accused. In the absence of results through the usual channels, the investigators decided to include him in the campaign ‘The 10 most wanted’, an initiative aimed at collecting citizen collaboration through the media and social networks of the police force.
Thanks to the dissemination of the case, the agents received information through the e-mail address set up for the campaign, losmasbuscados@policia.es, which, together with the work of the Fugitive Locator Section, made it possible to narrow the search for the fugitive’s whereabouts.
Investigations led to a warehouse located in a remote area, where the fugitive was hiding. After several surveillance operations, the agents detected the exit of a vehicle occupied by a man whose characteristics matched those of the wanted man. After stopping him, he was fully identified and arrested.
The National Police recalled that in November 2024 it launched a new edition of the campaign to locate ten fugitives wanted by national and international courts and highlighted that, in just one month, three of the ten fugitives included in the list have already been located.
The police force insists on the importance of citizen collaboration and reminds that anyone who can provide information can do so confidentially via email. lomasbuscados@policia.es.
In the case of Pavón Pereira, the Provincial Court of Huelva issued a search, arrest and production order in November 2023 after the defendant failed to appear in court for his committal to prison, following his trial the previous month.
