Iker Fernández Valderrama, Gasifred Atlético‘s first team player, underwent urgent surgery this Sunday to remove his spleen, after receiving a violent blow during the match against Unión África Ceutí, corresponding to the Second Division of futsal.
The impact forced his immediate evacuation to the Can Misses Hospital, where he was treated by the emergency service.
In a first medical evaluation, Fernandez was found to have three fractured ribs: the fifth and sixth with displacement -although without free fragments- and the seventh, with a non-displaced fracture.
The subsequent computed axial tomography (CT) scan revealed internal damage that led the medical team to decide to immediately send him to the operating room.
Positive evolution after the intervention
As reported by the Ibizan club itself, the operation was successful and the player remains in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), where he will remain under observation for the next few hours.
If the evolution continues to be favorable, he will be transferred to the ward to complete his recovery. The club has not specified a timetable for his return to sporting activities.
