The Local Police of Ibiza proposed 14 sanctions after carrying out a preventive control focused on personal mobility vehicles (PMVs), especially electric scooters.
The action took place during the morning of January 2 in the vicinity of the Parque de la Paz, coinciding with the first day of application of the new municipal regulations that require these vehicles to be registered with the Dirección General de Tráfico (DGT) and to have civil liability insurance.
Among the infractions detected are driving with headphones, not respecting red lights and driving through prohibited areas such as sidewalks or pedestrian areas, something frequent in points such as Vara de Rey, the Peace Park itself, the Figueretes promenade or the Abel Matutes boulevard.

New obligations for VMP users
Since January 2, all users of electric scooters in Ibiza are required to register their vehicles with the DGT and take out mandatory liability insurance.
This measure is part of a strategy of the Ibiza Town Hall to reinforce road safety, reduce risks for both pedestrians and drivers, and reduce the number of infractions.
The Local Police has warned that it will intensify surveillance to ensure compliance with these new rules. In its official channels, the force has reiterated that prevention and respect for traffic rules are fundamental, especially those that directly affect the safety of pedestrians.
“Prevention and respect for the rules is essential, especially those that put pedestrians at risk, such as driving on sidewalks or pedestrian areas such as Vara de Rey, Parque de la Paz, Paseo de Figueretes or Bulevar Abel Matutes,” said the local police in a message posted on social networks.
Regulation seeks to bring order to the growing use of scooters
The new regulation responds to the exponential increase in the use of MPVs in the urban area of Ibiza in recent years. The authorities believe that registration and mandatory insurance will allow greater traceability of these vehicles, facilitate identification in case of accidents and improve coexistence with pedestrians and other drivers.
