Extorero Cayetano Rivera was once again the involuntary protagonist of the news after suffering a traffic accident at the exit of the Real Club Sevilla Golf, in Alcalá de Guadaíra, according to ABC newspaper. Although the incident generated a strong initial concern, close sources confirmed that the bullfighter is out of danger.
The incident, which occurred a few meters from his home, required the intervention of the local police and led to an investigation to determine the causes of the incident.

Cayetano Rivera’s statements on the accident

In an interview with ¡Hola! magazine, Cayetano played down the drama of the incident and assured that the mishap was “simply a traffic circle”. He explained that the collision took place very close to his house and that the police came only as a matter of protocol: “The police came, yes, because it was at the entrance to my housing development, just a few meters from my house”.

A year marked by controversies and personal decisions

2025 has not been an easy year for Cayetano Rivera, who has faced several media and personal episodes in just a few months. In May he announced the end of his relationship with Portuguese journalist Maria Cerqueira, after two years of dating: according to both, distance and professional commitments were the main reasons for the breakup.
That same month, the bullfighter confirmed that the 2025 bullfighting season would be the last of his career, thus closing two decades in the bullring. The decision coincided with the centenary of his great-grandfather’s alternative, a symbolic date for the Rivera Ordóñez dynasty.
However, the professional retirement was overshadowed shortly after by an incident in Madrid: in the early hours of June 30, Cayetano was arrested after an altercation in a fast food restaurant on Atocha Street.
He was then charged with resistance and disobedience to authority, although he later defended his innocence and described the police action as “disproportionate”.
