The Spanish music scene dawned in mourning after learning of the death of Robe Iniesta, an essential rock figure and creative soul of Extremoduro. The announcement came on Wednesday when the artist’s communication team confirmed his death at the age of 63.
The news caused a wave of commotion among fans and colleagues, but also rekindled interest in the more intimate side of a musician who always chose to stay out of the media spotlight.
Unlike other referents of the genre, Robe defended throughout his career a hermetic private life, away from the public noise. His family discreetly accompanied his decisions and also the health episodes that marked his last years.
A discreet family that accompanied his retirement from the stage
In recent times, Robe Iniesta lived a calm daily life in Lezama (Vizcaya), where he found a refuge away from the intensity that marked his beginnings in music. His wife, Vivi Vázquez, was his closest supporter, present at every stage of his career and especially during the most complex periods from the medical point of view.
His children, Nahún and Karín, were also part of that intimate environment that the musician protected with determination. While the former inherited part of his father’s talent and developed as a drummer in the band Kontrol-M (always with a low profile that avoided capitalizing on his surname), Karín focused on her studies, also outside the media scene: the family became the anchor of stability that marked the artist’s last years.
The deterioration of Robe’s health that kept him away from music

Although Robe avoided sharing details about his personal life, it was inevitable that his state of health became a topic of conversation when, at the end of 2024, he announced the cancellation of several concerts planned in Madrid.
The reason behind that decision was a pulmonary thromboembolism, a pathology that forced the artist to suspend his stage activity and focus exclusively on his recovery.
This diagnosis meant, in practice, the end of his stage career. The following months were marked by rest, medical check-ups and a domestic life that contrasted with the artistic intensity that had characterized him since the late eighties.
The legacy of Robe Iniesta and Extremoduro
The death of Robe Iniesta puts an end to an unrepeatable career, but also to a way of understanding music and life. His retreat to a daily rhythm (focused on reading, cooking and moderate exercise) reflected the transition of a figure who, despite his success, chose a conscious silence and a simple lifestyle.
Extremoduro marked several generations and Robe was always more than a singer: a writer of raw experiences, a symbol of creative freedom and a reference that redefined the way of doing rock in Spain. His farewell leaves an emotional void among his fans, who today mourn not only the loss of the musician, but also the loss of the reserved man who carried his work with honesty to the end.
