Correos has started to market the geolocatable V16 beacons, authorized by the Dirección General de Tráfico (DGT) and which will be mandatory as of January 1, 2026. The device, which will replace the emergency triangles, is available for 59.90 euros at the 2,380 Correos offices throughout Spain, through the almost 6,000 letter carriers and rural letter carriers and through the online platform Correos Market.
Royal Decree 1030/2022 establishes that the triangles must be permanently removed and replaced by these new beacons, designed to improve road safety. Their main advantage is that they make it possible to signal a breakdown or accident without leaving the vehicle, reducing the driver’s risk.
Device connected to DGT 3.0
The V16 beacon is a compact, luminous, yellow device that is placed on the roof of the vehicle and emits a 360º flashing light for at least 30 minutes. It is equipped with a geolocation system and a unique IMEI that allows it to be connected to the DGT 3.0 platform, sending the location of the immobilized vehicle in real time to warn other drivers.
According to Correos, the beacons it markets include data coverage until 2038, as required by regulations, guaranteeing extended use for more than a decade. The battery has a minimum service life of 18 months.
Correos expands procedures linked to the DGT (DGT)
In addition to the sale of these beacons, Correos continues to strengthen its line of DGT-related services. These include:
-
The sale of environmental badges for access to Low Emission Zones (ZBE), available in 0, ECO, C and B emission categories.
-
The issuance of duplicate vehicle licenses.
-
Payment of penalties.
-
Obtaining vehicle reports.
The environmental stickers are priced at 5 euros and can be purchased at any office, through the rural services or at Correos Market.
A key service for rural areas
Correos emphasizes that this offer is part of its diversification strategy within the 2024-2028 Strategic Plan, with the aim of bringing essential procedures closer to citizens, especially those who live in areas far from large cities and the DGT administrative headquarters.
With the sale of V16 beacons, the postal company is positioning itself as an accessible channel to facilitate the transition to the new road safety regulations, which will come into force in just over a year’s time.
