The extension of the IES Marc Ferrer de Formentera will be completed before the start of the next school year, as confirmed Wednesday by the Minister of Education, Antoni Vera, during a visit to the work. The intervention, with a budget of 1.98 million, will create eight new teaching spaces and improve the accessibility of the building, an action that the Conselleria considers a priority given the growth of the educational community on the island.
The Regional Ministry of Education explained that the works are progressing “at a good pace” and that the planned schedule is being maintained. The project is being executed in the east wing of the second floor, where six classrooms and two workshops are being built, as well as a new staircase and an elevator, elements that will reinforce the internal connection of the school.
Eight classrooms ready
During the visit, Vera, accompanied by technicians and the management team of the center, checked on the ground the evolution of the work, which is part of the strategic program of the Govern called ‘Islands in Transformation’, aimed at modernizing public facilities. The action will allow the removal of the two modular classrooms still used by the institute, an element that the educational community had been demanding for years.
The Conselleria emphasizes that the extension will significantly improve the internal layout of the school, ensuring optimal conditions for learning. In addition, the center has already recovered the use of eight classrooms that had been temporarily disabled during the work.
The project has an execution period of twelve months and is part of the regional strategy to strengthen educational infrastructures. Before the visit, the minister held a meeting with the president of the Consell de Formentera, Óscar Portas, and with representatives of the kindergarten and primary schools of Pilar, Sant Ferran de ses Roques and Mestre Lluís Andreu, with whom he analyzed the current and future needs of the island’ s schools.
