The Consell de Formentera will evaluate this Thursday at the Council of Entities two new proposals for the regulation of vehicle access in 2025 under the program. Formentera.eco. This was announced by the councilor of Mobility, Verónica Castelló.
Although he did not elaborate on the details of these initiatives, Castelló has advanced in an interview with Radio Illa that it is a necessity to expand the quota of vehicles allowed for residents in Ibiza, which is currently limited to 220 cars and 20 motorcycles per day. According to current regulations, the vehicle limit must guarantee the mobility of Ibizans on the island, which will force the total quota to be redistributed. In the same way, he stressed, the future regulation must also ensure that the people of Formentera can travel to Ibiza in appropriate conditions.
Castelló’s intention is that, based on the proposed initiatives, they will reach a consensus initiative in the Council of Entities, and that it can be debated and voted on in the next plenary session of the Consell.
In addition to the presentation of the new proposals, the Council of Entities meeting will be used to present the results of the 2024 Formenterca.eco program.
Formentera.eco
The Formentera.eco program, in force since 2019, regulates the entry, circulation and parking of vehicles on the island during the busiest months. The Consell defends this initiative as a key measure to protect the environment and reduce traffic saturation on a road network of just 40 kilometers.
The convening of the Entities Council responds to compliance with Law 7/2019, which requires a hearing before the final approval of any modification to the system.
On the other hand, Castelló recalled that the deadlines established by law between the approval of the conditions of the new Formentera.eco by the plenary and its implementation prevent extending the period, which runs from June to September. Last year, the Small and Medium Enterprise of Formentera (PIMEF) had already suggested extending it so that the program would run from May to October.
