The Consell de Ibiza has specified this Sunday that some of the information disseminated by Pacma on the situation of the animal protection center Can Dog is “outdated” and can lead to “erroneous conclusions”.
The animal rights party filed a complaint with several institutions – the Government Delegation in the Balearic Islands, the Government Subdelegation in Ibiza and the Duty Court of Instruction –warning of the alleged continuity of activity at the center, which was closed as a precautionary measure on October 23rd.According to their version, some 22 dogs would continue in the facilities despite the closure order and the deadline set for its emptying.
In response to this complaint, the Consell has clarified that, although initially a deadline was given to remove all dogs after the de-registration of Can Dog as a zoological center, the head of the center presented a plan to manage specific cases: animals whose owners were off the island or needed more time to adapt their homes or look for alternatives. This planning included contact tests with the dogs’ owners.
After assessing this documentation, the island institution decided to grant an additional period to complete the phasing out, a period that, according to the institution, has not yet expired, although it will do so in the next few days.
The Consell emphasizes that both its Veterinary Service and the Seprona have been constantly monitoring the animals since the beginning of the process. The last veterinary inspection was carried out this past Friday, and the institution points out that the visits continue to verify the situation and compliance with the measures imposed.
It also recalls that on the farm there are dogs owned by the owner of the center that are not part of the eviction proceedings, as they are not animals that use Can Dog’s services.
Pacma’s complaint
Pacma, for its part, maintains that it has received warnings from neighbors and testimonies that would point to activity in the enclosure incompatible with the decreed closure, which is why it requested urgent precautionary measures, including the judicial removal of the animals.
While the animal rights party’s complaint continues, the Consell insists that the administrative process remains active, supervised and within the authorized deadlines, and that it will act once the approved planning is finalized to ensure full compliance with the precautionary closure.
