The Port Authority of the Balearic Islands (APB) has sent this week the first convoy of volunteers and machinery to help with the emergency caused by the DANA in the Valencian Community. “This collaboration is intended to help the Valencian people and ensure that resources reach the most affected areas, thus reaffirming the solidarity commitment of the APB in this difficult time,” they reported this morning. In total, the Balearic port agency has organized an operation of more than 50 volunteers, composed of Port Police officers and staff of the Conservation department, along with machinery necessary for emergency tasks. The detachment will be distributed in convoys of six personnel that will be rotated during the next weeks. Yesterday arrived in Valencia the first detachment formed by Port Police officers from the ports of Palma and Eivissa. The team of volunteers will work in Benetússer, one of the most affected localities and home of a colleague of the Port Police of Castellón who died during the catastrophe. The resources sent include generators, bilge pumps, support vehicles, and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), among others. This specific contribution responds to the needs that the Port Authority of Valencia and the Port Authority of Castellón have sent to the APB during these days of permanent contact. Their current priority is to have qualified personnel and heavy machinery to support the tasks of cleaning and unblocking of streets and accesses, thus facilitating the passage of humanitarian aid to the affected areas. In this way, APB volunteers will collaborate in essential tasks such as the removal of vehicles and traffic control, reinforcing security and order in this difficult situation.
Collaboration of Baleària
The shipping company Baleària has facilitated at all times the movement of volunteers and the necessary machinery for the relief work in the areas affected by the emergency. “Thanks to this collaboration, the resources and support personnel sent by the APB have been able to reach Valencia with agility and efficiency”, detailed from the Port Authority.
