The president, Marga Prohens, has announced in Parliament that the Govern will act this summer “for the first time on the coast with a surveillance service of the sea and the coast”. It will be, she said, with a fleet of 22 boats “to ensure proper anchoring and safety of bathers and boaters.”
Of the 22 vessels of PortsIB, 12 will be used for surveillance in the ports and 10 in the coastal area, has detailed the Conselleria del Mar to the consultation of La Voz de Ibiza. This fleet is different from that of the Conselleria de Agricultura y Medio Natural, which monitors that no one anchors on posidonia.
Prohens announced the implementation of this fleet in the turn of control questions to the Government in the plenary session of the Parliament, in response to the deputy of Més per Menorca Josep Castells who asked him if his Government “besides talking, really does something to curb the tourist overcrowding”.

Castells admitted that the Govern has captured the social interest in sustainability but accused Prohens that the Mesa de Sostenibilidad is “a smokescreen” and no limits have been put in place.
Prohens responded that combating the “episodes of congestion” that occur is linked to the transformation of the economic and tourism model of the Balearic Islands and is something “that is not done from one day to another or from one year to another”.
The president has assured that the Govern has achieved in 2024 “to grow more in value than in volume and that the increase in visitors is focused mainly in the off-season months” as was its goal. In addition, he recalled that this month will present a diagnostic document derived from the Bureau of Sustainability, with “clear objectives” and “then touch the proposals”.
Prohens has cited measures already implemented by the Govern such as an investment of 150 million in the concession contract to improve lines and frequencies in intercity public transport and the regulation of the entry of vehicles in Ibiza, which is also being worked on for Mallorca. The purchase of the fleet to monitor the coast will be added.
Castells, for his part, defended the moratorium on tourist vacancies approved by the previous government and told Prohens that the best thing her government has done is not to repeal it, and the president replied by accusing the governments of the pact of increasing 115,000 tourist vacancies and of reaching the historical record in one year in multi-family tourist rental licenses.
The president said that the Government will not adopt measures “by virtue of perceptions and philias and phobias” because a diagnosis was needed “We will have it with objective and measurable data and from there measures; this is called ‘seny’ and responsibility,” she concluded.
