The Consell Insular de Ibiza has made effective the payment of 1,475 grants to students corresponding to the call for the 2024-2025 academic year, for a total amount of more than one million euros, adding both the institution’s own grants and the travel grants financed by the Autonomous Community of the Balearic Islands. The payment has been completed before the end of the year, after a reinforcement of the administrative processing.
The Consell’s own aids, included in Line 1, have meant a disbursement of 699,997 euros, distributed among different modalities aimed at official studies of degree, masters, higher artistic education and training cycles, both studied in Ibiza and outside the island. This line has allowed the payment of a total of 967 grants, according to data provided by the island institution.
In addition to these grants, there are those corresponding to Line 2, financed by the Autonomous Community of the Balearic Islands and processed by the Consell Insular de Ibiza, aimed at compensating the travel costs of students pursuing official university studies outside the island. In this section, 508 grants have been paid, for a total amount of 356,087.68 euros.
Administrative reinforcement and increased demand
The Executive Councilor for Culture, Education and Heritage, Sara Ramon, stressed that “a major effort has been made to strengthen management and to be able to pay all grants before the end of the year, despite the steady increase in applications” that is recorded call after call. This increase reflects the growing demand for financial support from students on the island.
Ramon also stressed that “this increase confirms the importance of this aid for families and students of Ibiza”, especially in a context marked by the additional costs arising from the insularity, which makes access to higher education outside the island territory more expensive.
In this context, the Consell de Ibiza plans to significantly increase its own contribution to these grants, so that the budget allocated to support higher education will reach one million euros next year, thus reinforcing the institutional commitment to education and equal opportunities for young people on the island.
