Actress Verónica Sánchez once again captures the public’s attention with her participation in Las hijas de la criada, the TV adaptation of the novel with which Sonsoles Ónega won the Planeta 2023 Prize. The fiction, which landed on Atresplayer last Sunday, was produced by Buendía Estudios and directed by Menna Fité and Alejo Fah. In it, Sánchez gives life to one of the main characters of this story set in another era, sharing the cast with prominent names such as Alain Hernández, Carlota Baró, Martina Cariddi and Judith Fernández.
On the occasion of the premiere, Verónica Sánchez participates this Tuesday in El Hormiguero with Sonsoles Ónega. Both will discuss details of the creative process of the series, while the presence of the Sevillian actress allows us to approach some little known aspects of her personal life.
From family theater to television fame: the beginnings of Veronica Sanchez
Born in Seville in 1977, Verónica Sánchez grew up in an environment where love for cinema and theater was part of everyday life. It was her maternal grandfather who passed on her passion for the performing arts, although it was not until she was a teenager that she decided to try her luck in the world of acting.

“In COU I signed up for a theater course. I don’t really know why. I almost feel that someone decided for me, but that’s when I discovered that this was what I wanted to do,” she explained in an interview. This experience led her to sit the entrance exam for the ESAD in Seville. Shortly after, she moved to Madrid to continue her studies in Dramatic Art, thus taking the first big step in a solid career.
Her first major role came in 2003 with the film Al sur de Granada, directed by Fernando Colomo. For this performance she was nominated for a Goya for Best New Actress. That same year she also debuted in the series that would mark her career: Los Serrano.
Los Serrano’ and the leap to popularity
Her role as Eva Capdevila in Los Serrano, Belén Rueda’s eldest daughter, made Verónica Sánchez one of the most popular faces in Spanish television. The series, headed by Antonio Resines, placed her at the center of the media scene and opened the doors to the film industry.
Over the years, she has worked in titles such as El año de la garrapata, El Calentito, Las 13 rosas, Gordos and Camarón, earning two more Goya nominations in the category of Best Female Supporting Actress. In television, she has left her mark in productions such as Sin identidad, El embarcadero, Sky Rojo and La Favorita 1922.
A love story with Fran Perea that went beyond the screen
During her stage in Los Serrano, Verónica Sánchez lived a sentimental relationship with her co-star Fran Perea, who played Marcos, her stepbrother in the fiction. The romance, which began in 2003, became one of the most followed by the media at the time.
Both came to live together, but the relationship dissolved after two years. Despite the breakup, they maintain a cordial relationship. They proved it when, two decades later, they posed together to recreate one of the iconic scenes of the series. “The sofa is not the same, but we are the same. No, better!” wrote Fran Perea when posting the image on social networks.
Rumors with Luis Fernandez behind a joint project
In 2024, after her participation in La Favorita 1922, rumors began to circulate about an alleged relationship between Verónica Sánchez and actor Luis Fernández, who was her co-star in that fiction. According to the media Vanitatis, both presented themselves as a couple to their closest environment.
Weeks later, Pronto magazine published photographs of the two enjoying a vacation in Cadiz. In the images, the actors appeared hugging and sharing affectionate gestures on the beach.
However, both Verónica Sánchez and Luis Fernández have repeatedly denied having a sentimental relationship. “I have clarified it, he has clarified it, but every week news keeps coming out that we are a couple. I let it go,” said the actress in an interview with Diez Minutos. She also added: “It doesn’t bother me, but I get lazy when things are said and, no matter how much they are denied, they are reiterated. We are very close friends, we have been together for a long time and we know how this goes”.
Luis Fernández was also clear in his statements: “No, we are not a couple, in fact. It is something that was in the air, but I have never confirmed it and neither has she. In fact, I deny it. We are not a couple”.
Verónica Sánchez, a consolidated present and an expanding career
At 48 years old, Verónica Sánchez is going through one of the most outstanding moments of her professional career. Her work in high visibility productions, both on television and on platforms, keeps her current and respected within the Spanish audiovisual industry.
With Las hijas de la criada, she has once again established herself as one of the most prominent female faces on the acting scene. Meanwhile, her personal life continues to be the subject of media interest, although she maintains a reserved and prudent stance.
Verónica Sánchez’s presence in El Hormiguero promises to provide more details about her experience in this new fiction and about the next steps of a career marked by talent, perseverance and recognition.
