Ibiza Town Hall will commemorate on December 4 the 26th anniversary of the declaration of Eivissa as a World Heritage Site with a cultural event of special relevance: the premiere of the Chamber Orchestra City of Eivissa, a new formation born within the Municipal Board of Music. The concert will take place at 9 p.m. in the church of Santa Cruz, with free admission until full capacity is reached.
The new orchestra, conceived to consolidate a stable musical project with strong local roots, will debut under the baton of renowned Ibizan violinist Lina Tur Bonet, Gold Medal of the City in 2017, accompanied by an ensemble of 20 musicians from the island.
An inaugural program of great masters of classicism
The program chosen for this premiere offers a journey through three essential references of musical classicism. The public will be able to enjoy:
-
Concerto Grosso in G minor, Op. 6 no. 8 “Fatto per la notte di Natale”. by Arcangelo Corelli.
-
Horn Concerto No. 3 in E flat major, KV 447, by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, performed by the Ibizan soloist Federico Cuevas Ruiz.
-
Symphony No. 45 in F sharp minor, “Els adeus”, Hob. I:45, by Joseph Haydn.
A carefully selected proposal that combines the festive spirit of the event with the musical quality that the new project aims to consolidate.
The Councillor for Culture and Heritage of Eivissa, Carmen Domínguez, stresses the importance of this premiere as a milestone in the municipal strategy of promoting music and local talent.
“The creation of the Eivissa City Chamber Orchestra is a decisive step in the City Council’s commitment to music and culture. It is an opportunity to give prominence to our local talent, to offer quality concerts and to consolidate Ibiza as a cultural reference,” said Domínguez, recalling that the project is the result of collaboration between musicians, institutions and civil society.

Lina Tur Bonet: an international career at Ibiza’s service
The inaugural concert will be conducted by Lina Tur Bonet, one of the most renowned Spanish violinists of her generation. Her career has been praised by specialized publications such as The Strad, Diapason, Gramophone or the Bayerische Rundfunk, which highlight her energy, precision and ability to transmit emotion.
Initially trained by her father, Antonio Tur Marí, the artist has worked with world-renowned conductors such as Abbado, Harding, Minkowski, Christie, Currentzis, Gatti and Gardiner, and has shared the stage with figures of the stature of Christian Zacharias, Mennahem Pressler and Enrico Onofri.
Her career has taken her to perform at iconic venues such as London’s Wigmore Hall, Amsterdam’s Concertgebouw, Sydney Opera House, New York’s Lincoln Center, Vienna’s Musikverein and Konzerthaus, as well as the Philharmonie in Paris and Hamburg. With more than twenty recordings as soloist and conductor, she has received awards such as the Diapason d’Or and the award for Best CD of the year at the so-called “Japanese Grammy”.
Federico Cuevas Ruiz, Ibizan talent with international projection
The young trumpet player Federico Cuevas Ruiz will also be the protagonist of the evening. Born in Ibiza in 1994 and trained at the Patronato de Música de Can Ventosa, he stood out since his childhood when he joined the Banda Municipal de Eivissa at the age of eleven and made his debut with the Orquesta Sinfónica Ciudad de Eivissa at the age of sixteen.
He later graduated with top marks from the Real Conservatorio Superior de Música de Madrid and completed a master’s degree in historical horns at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam, under the guidance of maestro Teunis van der Zwart.
His professional career has led him to collaborate with prestigious ensembles such as Jordi Savall’s Le Concert des Nations, Orchestra of the Eighteenth Century, Freiburger Barockorchester, Concerto Köln or Das Neue Mannheimer Orchester, with which he recorded in 2021 the Mozart repertoire. He has also worked with the Deutsche Händel-Solisten, the Beethoven Orchester Bonn or Il Pomo d’Oro, participating in numerous recording projects.
A cultural commitment to the future
With the premiere of the City of Eivissa Chamber Orchestra, the City Council reaffirms its commitment to a cultural model that combines the promotion of local talent with artistic excellence and accessibility of the resident and visiting public to high-level proposals.
The new group thus joins the cultural offerings of the island as a project with a clear vocation for continuity, designed to enrich the cultural life of Eivissa and strengthen its position as a musical reference in the Mediterranean.
