The City Council of Ibiza celebrates today, at 21.00 hours in the church of Santa Cruz, the 26th anniversary of the declaration of Eivissa as a World Heritage Site with the official premiere of the Chamber Orchestra City of Eivissa. The new formation, promoted by the Patronato Municipal de Música, is born with the aim of consolidating a stable orchestra built from local talent.
The inaugural concert will be conducted by the renowned Ibizan violinist Lina Tur Bonet, Gold Medal of the City in 2017, and will feature 17 musicians from the island -18 including the conductor-.
An inaugural program to travel through classicism
Tonight, the public will be able to enjoy a program that covers three great works of the classical repertoire:

Concerto Grosso in G minor, Op. 6 no. 8 “Fatto per la notte di Natale”. by Arcangelo Corelli.

Horn Concerto No. 3 in E flat major, KV 447, by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, with the Ibizan soloist Federico Cuevas Ruiz.

Symphony No. 45 in F sharp minor, “Els adéus”, Hob. I:45, by Joseph Haydn.
Admission will be free until full capacity is reached, so it is recommended to come in advance.

A firm commitment to local musical talent
The Councilor for Culture and Heritage, Carmen Domínguez, stressed the importance of this event: “The creation of the Eivissa City Chamber Orchestra is a decisive step in the commitment of the City Council with music and culture. It is an opportunity to give prominence to our local talent, to offer the public quality concerts and consolidate Ibiza as a cultural reference”.
Domínguez emphasized that this project is the result of the collaboration between musicians, institutions and civil society, and especially valued the fact that the orchestra was born under the direction of Lina Tur Bonet and has the talent of performers from the island such as Federico Cuevas Ruiz.
Lina Tur Bonet, a director with international projection
Recognized by international critics as one of the most virtuosic and versatile violinists of her generation, Lina Tur Bonet will bring her extensive experience to the new ensemble. Media such as The Strad, Bayerische Rundfunk, Diapason or Gramophone have praised her musicality and ability to combine emotion and rigor.
Initially trained by her father, Antonio Tur Marí, she has worked with conductors such as Abbado, Harding, Minkowsky, Christie, Currentzis, Gatti and Gardiner, as well as sharing the stage with renowned figures such as Christian Zacharias, Mennahem Pressler and Enrico Onofri.
Her career has taken her to such emblematic halls as the Wigmore Hall in London, the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, the Sydney Opera House, the Lincoln Center in New York, the Musikverein and the Konzerthaus in Vienna, as well as the Philharmonie in Paris and Hamburg. His discography, with twenty albums, has won awards such as the Diapason d’Or or the prize for Best CD of the year at the “Japanese Grammy”.
Federico Cuevas Ruiz, one of the island’s promising young talents
The soloist of the evening will be the Ibizan trumpet player Federico Cuevas Ruiz (Ibiza, 1994), trained at the Patronato de Música de Can Ventosa with professor Damián Boluda. He joined the Municipal Band of Eivissa at the age of eleven and made his debut with the Eivissa City Symphony Orchestra at the age of sixteen.
Graduated with the highest qualifications at the Real Conservatorio Superior de Música de Madrid, he completed a master’s degree in historical horns at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam under the direction of Teunis van der Zwart.
He has collaborated with reference ensembles such as Le Concert des Nations, the Orchestra of the Eighteenth Century, Freiburger Barockorchester, Concerto Köln or Das Neue Mannheimer Orchester, with whom he recorded in 2021 Mozart 2021. He has also worked with the Deutsche Händel-Solisten, the Beethoven Orchester Bonn or Il Pomo d’Oro, participating in multiple recording projects.

A premiere that marks Eivissa’s cultural future
With this premiere, the Eivissa Town Hall consolidates its commitment to musical excellence, the promotion of local talent and the dissemination of classical music among citizens.
The City of Eivissa Chamber Orchestra joins the cultural offer of the island with the aim of becoming a stable and reference project.
