The choirs of l’Urgell and Sant Josep are back to star in one of the most anticipated moments of the festive calendar of the municipality: its traditional Christmas Concert, a musical proposal that for twenty-seven years has illuminated the local festivities and that this 2025 comes with a strong accent of recognition to the artistic creation of the environment.
Tribute to authors linked to choirs
This year’s edition pays tribute to the composers and lyricists related to the two formations. During the recital, the choristers will accompany the Josepina artist
A program that vindicates local talent
The repertoire will include the habanera Moll vell de Portmany, with lyrics by Marià Torres Rafal, member of the Cor de Sant Josep, and music by the composer Josep Ollé, who this week has premiered his acclaimed Te Deum as part of the events of the millennium of the Abbey of Montserrat. The piece was commissioned as part of the campaign “Units pel nostre parlar”, promoted by the City Council of Sant Josep to promote the language and identity of the municipality.
Artistic growth from childhood
The closing performance will be Nadal a Sant Josep, a choral poem with lyrics by Francisca Marí Botja and music by the young composer Josepí Bartomeu Tur, a former member of the Cor de l’Urgell. The presence of former singers in this year’s program is an example of the impact that the children’s choir has had since its creation: more than 800 children have passed through its ranks, finding in music a space for learning, creativity and personal development.
The concert will be held tomorrow, Thursday, December 11, at 7.30 pm, in the church of Sant Josep. The event is organized by the City Council of Sant Josep, the CEIP L’Urgell and the Association of Neighbors of Sa Raval.
