The City Council of Eivissa has unveiled its program to commemorate November 25, International Day for the Eradication of Violence against Women. The agenda, presented at the Casal de Igualdad, includes cultural proposals, spaces for reflection, educational activities and community actions with the aim of making violence visible and promoting a collective response.
During the presentation, the Councilor for Equality, Sara Barbado, stressed the importance of maintaining active awareness throughout the year. “The fight against male violence cannot be limited to a single day. Arts, culture and education are fundamental tools to build awareness and prevent from the root,” she said.
First events: film forum and debate on adolescence
The program will start on Thursday, November 20, at 6:30 p.m., with the film forum Dreams of Freedom, organized by Progressive Women and presented by Doctors of the World. The activity will take place at the Casal d’Igualtat and seeks to open a dialogue on the violence that remains hidden.
The following day, Friday, November 21, the same space will host the round table ‘Sexual violence in adolescence’, scheduled for 7:00 pm and open to the public until full capacity is reached. The session will address the reality of young people facing early exposure to sexist roles and normalized behaviors.
Theater as a tool for social transformation
Among the most outstanding proposals is the monologue ‘No solo duelen los golpes’, by Pamela Palenciano, a work recognized for its ability to stir consciences through humor, emotion and social denunciation. The performance will take place at the Can Ventosa Theater on December 17, with a morning session reserved for high schools and another free session open to the general public at 6:00 pm.
Another key piece is ‘Lo normal’, by the company El Terral, which invites to reflect on the normalized violence in romantic relationships and the repetition of sexist roles. It will be on Friday, November 28, with two morning sessions aimed at schools and an open performance at 7:00 pm.
Institutional event on November 25
On the central day of the commemoration, November 25, the traditional rally and reading of the manifesto will be held in the Parc de la Pau, organized by the 8M Commission. The City Council will set up an information tent and the Casal de Igualdad will add parallel activities to reinforce the message of the day.
Storytelling, literature and workshops for young people
The program is completed with family proposals such as the storytelling ‘L’Olivia and feathers’, by Susana Isern, on November 27 at 18:00 pm in the Casal de Igualdad.
The Feminist Book Club will dedicate its November 28 session to Cristina Rivera Garza’s El invencible verano de Liliana (Liliana’s Invincible Summer), a literary reflection on violence and memory.
Youth will also have a leading role with ‘Iguali-rap’, a rap workshop taught by Erika Dos Santos and aimed at students in sixth grade. In addition, there will be an open freestyle session during the afternoon of November 27.
Broad and diverse view to close the program
The program will culminate on December 2 at the C19 center with the talk ‘Seeing the invisible’, given by Nora González, who will address male violence from the perspective of functional diversities, broadening the focus on the multiple realities experienced by women.
