Sant Antoni de Portmany has once again placed itself at the forefront of sustainability in the Pitiusas. For the fifth consecutive year, the municipality has revalidated the Ecovidrio Green Flag<\/strong>, an award that recognizes the towns most committed to the circular economy, waste management and the promotion of recycling. <\/p>\n

In this sixth edition of the summer campaign #MovimientoBanderasVerdes<\/strong>, Sant Antoni has obtained the best results in the Balearic Islands, consolidating itself as an environmental benchmark.<\/p>\n

A clean-up day with an educational spirit<\/strong><\/h2>\n

As a reward for its performance, the municipality was awarded with a beach cleaning day<\/strong> in Cala Graci\u00f3<\/strong>, in which the City Council of Sant Antoni<\/strong>, Ecovidrio<\/strong>, Paisaje Limpio<\/strong> and a hundred students from CEIP Sant Antoni<\/strong> and CEIP Sant Rafel<\/strong> participated.<\/p>\n

The activity, which managed to remove 2.2 tons of waste<\/strong> from the coast and seabed, was attended by Mayor Marcos Serra<\/strong>, the Councilor for the Environment Pepita Torres<\/strong>, the coordinator of Ecovidrio in the Balearic Islands Ivan Tols\u00e0<\/strong> and the director of Paisaje Limpio In\u00e9s de la Paz<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Serra stressed that “for the fifth consecutive year we have revalidated the Green Flag, the result of the joint work of the Department of Environment, the UTE Portmany, establishments and residents of the municipality”. He added that this day “serves to reinforce environmental awareness, especially among the youngest”. <\/p>\n

Leadership in recycling and hospitality commitment<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Sant Antoni has positioned itself as the most involved municipality of the Balearic Islands in the campaign, according to the coordinator of Ecovidrio, Ivan Tols\u00e0<\/strong>, who stressed that 734 tons of glass containers<\/strong> were collected during the summer, the highest figure among the 31 participating municipalities<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

He also highlighted the involvement of the HORECA (<\/strong> hotel, restaurant and catering) sector<\/strong>, with 99.5% active participation<\/strong>, which has contributed to the success of the initiative. “Glass is an infinitely recyclable material and its proper management contributes to the fight against climate change and the promotion of the circular economy,” explained Tols\u00e0.<\/p>\n

Results that reinforce local sustainability<\/strong><\/h2>\n

During the months of June, July and August<\/strong>, Sant Antoni de Portmany collected 734,420 kilos of glass<\/strong>, avoiding the emission of 426 tons of CO\u2082<\/strong> into the atmosphere.<\/p>\n

Ecovidrio’s #MovimientoBanderasVerdes<\/strong> campaign rewards each year the involvement of municipalities and the hospitality industry in the correct management of waste. The awards are based on selective collection, the participation of the hotel sector and municipal communication and awareness-raising activities.<\/p>\n

With this new recognition, Sant Antoni reaffirms its position as an environmental reference in the Pitiusas<\/strong>, consolidating a model of sustainable management that unites institutions, companies and citizens in caring for the environment.<\/p>\n
