Although it <g id=\"gid_3\">does not pose a biological risk to the population<\/g>, the event may affect <g id=\"gid_4\">satellites, power grids and navigation systems<\/g> in the regions exposed during its arrival, including <g id=\"gid_5\">Europe, Africa and Asia<\/g>. In addition, the agency warned that it could last until this Friday.  <\/p>\n<h2 data-start=\"929\" data-end=\"1003\"><strong data-start=\"933\" data-end=\"1003\">A solar flare of great intensity and an ejection at 1,500 km\/s<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p data-start=\"1005\" data-end=\"1396\">The ESA has explained that on Tuesday <strong data-start=\"1050\" data-end=\"1143\">&#8220;an intense solar flare<\/strong> was observed <strong data-start=\"1050\" data-end=\"1143\">with a peak around 11.04 Spanish peninsular time&#8221;.<\/strong> Less than an hour later, a <strong data-start=\"1187\" data-end=\"1221\">coronal mass ejection (CME)<\/strong> was detected with an estimated speed of <strong data-start=\"1252\" data-end=\"1284\">1,500 kilometers per second<\/strong>, whose arrival is expected for tonight or early Thursday, although &#8220;with a certain degree of uncertainty&#8221;. <\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<h5><a href=\"https:\/\/lavozdeibiza.com\/en\/current-news\/54-more-migrants-arrive-in-formentera-after-an-early-morning-of-rescues\/?swcfpc=1\">54 more migrants arrive in Formentera after an early morning of rescues<\/a><\/h5>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p data-start=\"1398\" data-end=\"1549\">The current assessment expects the resulting geomagnetic storm to have a <strong data-start=\"1482\" data-end=\"1493\">&#8220;severe&#8221;<\/strong> impact <strong data-start=\"1482\" data-end=\"1493\">,<\/strong> with potential disruptions to key infrastructure.<\/p>\n<h2 data-start=\"1556\" data-end=\"1608\"><strong data-start=\"1560\" data-end=\"1608\">Three consecutive coronal mass ejections<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p data-start=\"1610\" data-end=\"1787\">The scenario is complicated by the interaction of several CMEs over the past few days. This is detailed by <strong data-start=\"1709\" data-end=\"1731\">Juha-Pekka Luntama<\/strong>, head of ESA&#8217;s Space Weather Office: <strong style=\"font-size: 16px;\" data-start=\"1791\" data-end=\"2095\">&#8220;Our planet was impacted last night by two consecutive coronal mass ejections that triggered a strong geomagnetic disturbance. We expect a third one to arrive later today or tomorrow. The impact of this third CME will largely depend on whether it merges with the first two or not.&#8221;<\/strong> <\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<h5><a href=\"https:\/\/lavozdeibiza.com\/en\/current-news\/a-truck-and-an-electric-motorcycle-are-burned-in-a-night-fire-in-the-port-of-ibiza\/?swcfpc=1\">A truck and an electric motorcycle are burned in a night fire in the port of Ibiza<\/a><\/h5>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p data-start=\"2097\" data-end=\"2146\">The forecast calls for the phenomenon to continue: <strong style=\"font-size: 16px;\" data-start=\"2150\" data-end=\"2479\">&#8220;The geomagnetic storm is expected to continue at a severe level and could affect satellites, power grids and navigation systems. We have observed more CMEs being ejected from the Sun, so intense space activity is expected to continue during the second half of this week.&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n<h2 data-start=\"2486\" data-end=\"2551\"><strong data-start=\"2490\" data-end=\"2551\">One of the most powerful fulgurations in recent years<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p data-start=\"2553\" data-end=\"2793\">The Ministry of Science has detailed that Tuesday&#8217;s outburst was of <strong data-start=\"2628\" data-end=\"2642\">X5.1 class<\/strong>, &#8220;<strong data-start=\"2645\" data-end=\"2692\">one of the most powerful in recent years<\/strong>&#8220;, and is in addition to the CMEs recorded on November 7 and 9, which reached the Earth on November 11.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2795\" data-end=\"2842\">The <strong data-start=\"2799\" data-end=\"2821\">immediate effects<\/strong> have already been detected:<\/p>\n<ul data-start=\"2844\" data-end=\"3039\">\n<li data-start=\"2844\" data-end=\"2916\">\n<p data-start=\"2846\" data-end=\"2916\"><strong data-start=\"2846\" data-end=\"2867\">Temporary outages<\/strong> in high frequency radio communications.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"2917\" data-end=\"2984\">\n<p data-start=\"2919\" data-end=\"2984\">Disruptions especially visible in areas such as <strong data-start=\"2971\" data-end=\"2981\">Africa<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"2985\" data-end=\"3039\">\n<p data-start=\"2987\" data-end=\"3039\">A <strong data-start=\"2991\" data-end=\"3016\">radiation storm<\/strong> that continues to be active.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p data-start=\"3041\" data-end=\"3213\">Although these solar particles do not pose a health risk on the surface, they can affect <strong data-start=\"3143\" data-end=\"3190\">satellites and electronic systems in orbit<\/strong>, the Ministry points out.<\/p>\n<h2 data-start=\"3220\" data-end=\"3294\"><strong data-start=\"3224\" data-end=\"3294\">Spain: minor impacts and no risk for critical infrastructures<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p data-start=\"3296\" data-end=\"3437\">Despite the magnitude of the event, Spain is in a relatively favorable situation due to its latitude. The Ministry clarifies: <strong style=\"font-size: 16px;\" data-start=\"3441\" data-end=\"3726\">&#8220;Spain is not among the countries with the greatest direct exposure to this extreme space weather episode. Our location in mid-latitudes, far from the polar regions, significantly reduces the intensity of the expected effects on the national territory.&#8221;<\/strong> <\/p>\n<p data-start=\"3728\" data-end=\"3840\">Therefore, no <strong data-start=\"3754\" data-end=\"3775\">major damage<\/strong> to key infrastructures is anticipated. Possible effects will be punctual: <\/p>\n<ul data-start=\"3842\" data-end=\"4085\">\n<li data-start=\"3842\" data-end=\"3904\">\n<p data-start=\"3844\" data-end=\"3904\"><strong data-start=\"3844\" data-end=\"3862\">Interference<\/strong> in the accuracy of GPS and GNSS systems.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"3905\" data-end=\"4000\">\n<p data-start=\"3907\" data-end=\"4000\"><strong data-start=\"3907\" data-end=\"3937\">Very limited disturbances<\/strong> in shortwave or high frequency radio communications.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"4001\" data-end=\"4085\">\n<p data-start=\"4003\" data-end=\"4085\">No relevant effects on <strong data-start=\"4044\" data-end=\"4084\">mobile telephony, internet or FM radio<\/strong> are expected.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p data-start=\"4087\" data-end=\"4159\">As for satellites linked to Spain, the Ministry points out that, <span style=\"font-size: 16px;\">&#8220;In some cases automatic security protocols could be activated or transitory errors detected, with no real impact on the continuity of service.&#8221;<\/span><\/p>\n<h2 data-start=\"4326\" data-end=\"4378\"><strong data-start=\"4330\" data-end=\"4378\">Permanent monitoring from Spain and ESA<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p data-start=\"4380\" data-end=\"4708\">The <strong data-start=\"4383\" data-end=\"4418\">Spanish Space Agency (ESA)<\/strong> and <strong data-start=\"4424\" data-end=\"4431\">ESA<\/strong> maintain a detailed monitoring of the solar storm to anticipate any relevant change or associated risk.
