{"id":137652,"date":"2025-11-16T11:11:35","date_gmt":"2025-11-16T10:11:35","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/lavozdeibiza.com\/sin-categorizar\/the-sea-police-of-ibiza-and-formentera-paralyzed-by-a-bureaucratic-process\/"},"modified":"2025-11-16T11:11:35","modified_gmt":"2025-11-16T10:11:35","slug":"the-sea-police-of-ibiza-and-formentera-paralyzed-by-a-bureaucratic-process","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/lavozdeibiza.com\/en\/current-news\/the-sea-police-of-ibiza-and-formentera-paralyzed-by-a-bureaucratic-process\/","title":{"rendered":"The &#8220;Sea Police&#8221; of Ibiza and Formentera paralyzed by a bureaucratic process"},"content":{"rendered":"<p data-start=\"317\" data-end=\"615\">The <strong data-start=\"320\" data-end=\"364\">new Coastal Surveillance Service<\/strong>, known as &#8220;Sea Police&#8221;, presented by the <strong data-start=\"384\" data-end=\"401\">Balearic Government<\/strong> on August 4, <strong data-start=\"433\" data-end=\"468\">has not<\/strong> yet <strong data-start=\"433\" data-end=\"468\">become operational<\/strong> due to the lack of a pending procedure before the <strong data-start=\"511\" data-end=\"533\">Maritime Captaincy<\/strong>, an agency under the <strong data-start=\"561\" data-end=\"613\">Ministry of Transport and Sustainable Mobility<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li data-start=\"317\" data-end=\"615\">\n<h5><a href=\"https:\/\/lavozdeibiza.com\/actualidad\/policia-del-mar-en-ibiza-y-formentera-las-embarcaciones-de-vigilancia-que-se-destinaran-a-las-pitiusas\/?swcfpc=1\">&#8220;Police of the sea&#8221; of the Govern: surveillance vessels to be assigned to Ibiza and Formentera<\/a><\/h5>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p data-start=\"617\" data-end=\"885\">The initiative included <strong data-start=\"761\" data-end=\"788\">22 new boats<\/strong> to <strong data-start=\"802\" data-end=\"849\">reinforce the control of nautical activity<\/strong> on beaches and coves of the archipelago. Two of these launches are destined for Ibiza and Formentera, as advanced by <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/lavozdeibiza.com\/en\/\">La Voz de Ibiza<\/a><\/strong>. <\/p>\n<p data-start=\"617\" data-end=\"885\">However, the control service is not yet operational. From the <strong data-start=\"990\" data-end=\"1013\">Conselleria del Mar y Ciclo del Agua del Govern Balear<\/strong>, have confirmed that the implementation of the service <strong data-start=\"1067\" data-end=\"1114\">is still pending administrative clearance<\/strong> by the Captaincy, although they assure that <strong data-start=\"1162\" data-end=\"1240\">the registration procedures, insurance, equipment and technical reviews<\/strong> have been completed progressively since the arrival of the boats, as advanced by <em>\u00daltima Hora<\/em>. <\/p>\n<ul>\n<li data-start=\"676\" data-end=\"953\">\n<h5><a href=\"https:\/\/lavozdeibiza.com\/actualidad\/el-govern-presenta-la-nueva-policia-del-mar-cuando-comenzara-a-operar-en-ibiza\/?swcfpc=1\">The Govern presents the new &#8216;sea police&#8217;: when will it start operating in Ibiza?<\/a><\/h5>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p data-start=\"1313\" data-end=\"1656\">In spite of this situation, the same sources of the Autonomous Executive emphasize that <strong data-start=\"1393\" data-end=\"1440\">the surveillance of the coastline has not stopped<\/strong>, since <strong data-start=\"1478\" data-end=\"1540\">inspection tasks<\/strong> have continued to be carried out <strong data-start=\"1478\" data-end=\"1540\">using drones and other vessels<\/strong> owned by the Administration, in addition to maintaining coordination with the other administrations involved.<\/p>\n<h2 data-start=\"1861\" data-end=\"2146\">The &#8220;Sea Police<\/h2>\n<p data-start=\"1999\" data-end=\"2320\">As <strong data-start=\"2017\" data-end=\"2036\">La Voz de Ibiza<\/strong> advanced last June, the maritime surveillance corps contemplates 22 vessels acquired by <strong>Ports IB<\/strong>. Of these, <strong data-start=\"2182\" data-end=\"2246\">12 small ones will be used for management within the ports<\/strong>, while <strong data-start=\"2261\" data-end=\"2283\">10 larger ones<\/strong> will operate on the coast and along the coastline. <\/p>\n<ul>\n<li data-start=\"1641\" data-end=\"1956\">\n<h5><a href=\"https:\/\/lavozdeibiza.com\/actualidad\/la-nueva-policia-del-mar-del-govern-que-hara-en-ibiza-y-formentera\/?swcfpc=1\">The Govern&#8217;s new &#8216;sea police&#8217;: what will it do in Ibiza and Formentera?<\/a><\/h5>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p data-start=\"2322\" data-end=\"2613\">According to the general director of Ports and Maritime Transport, <strong data-start=\"2399\" data-end=\"2417\">Antoni Mercant<\/strong>, <strong data-start=\"2432\" data-end=\"2485\">two of these boats will work in Ibiza and Formentera<\/strong>, another two in Menorca and six in Mallorca.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2322\" data-end=\"2613\">The fleet will mainly monitor the <strong data-start=\"2685\" data-end=\"2725\">buoy fields and nautical charter<\/strong>, with the ability to initiate proceedings when it detects activities without the required documentation. Although some have described it as a <strong data-start=\"2867\" data-end=\"2888\">&#8220;police of the sea&#8221;,<\/strong> Mercant clarified that it is a service with a <strong data-start=\"2937\" data-end=\"2971\">preventive and educational function<\/strong>, rather than a sanctioning one. <\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2998\" data-end=\"3273\">The boats will be owned by <strong data-start=\"3035\" data-end=\"3047\">Ports IB<\/strong>, but will be managed by the public company <strong data-start=\"3097\" data-end=\"3107\">Tragsa<\/strong>, and may embark officials from different administrations:
