Employment in tourism activities in the Balearic Islands increased by 8.9% during the month of October, reaching 112,230 workers in the archipelago, driven mainly by the rise in salaried employees and the good performance of the tourism labor market at the national level. This is reflected in the data published this Monday by Turespa\u00f1a<\/strong>, which place the Islands as the second autonomous community with the highest increase in this sector. <\/p>\n

More than 112,000 workers linked to the tourism industry<\/strong><\/h2>\n

The Balearic Islands closed October with 112,230 people employed in tourism activities<\/strong>, which is 9,190 more<\/strong> than in the same month of the previous year. Of the total, 99,130 are salaried employees<\/strong>, up 10%, while 13,100 are self-employed<\/strong>, with a slight increase of 1.1%. <\/p>\n

This growth makes the Balearic Islands the region with the second largest increase in tourism employment in absolute figures<\/strong>, behind only Andalusia.<\/p>\n

The Spanish tourism sector exceeds 2.8 million affiliates<\/strong><\/h2>\n

The good labor performance is not exclusive to the archipelago. In Spain as a whole, the tourism sector reached 2,855,255 affiliations<\/g> in October, 3.5% more<\/g> than in 2023. During the tenth month of the year, employment linked to tourism increased by 96,854 workers<\/strong>, already representing 13.2% of the<\/strong> country’ s total enrollment<\/strong>. <\/p>\n

By branches of activity, hotels and restaurants<\/strong> led the growth with an increase of 49,020 workers<\/strong> -18,399 in accommodation services and 30,621 in catering services-. Travel agencies<\/strong> added 1,691 workers<\/strong>, while other tourism activities added 46,143 workers.<\/strong> <\/p>\n

Increase in the number of employees and improvement in the quality of employment<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Salaried employment, which represents 82.3% of the total number of workers in the sector<\/strong>, showed a significant improvement: it grew by 4.1%<\/strong> with respect to October of last year. The increase was evenly distributed among the main branches: <\/p>\n

      Self-employment<\/strong>, which represents 17.7% of the total, increased by 1%<\/strong>. In hotels and restaurants, growth was more moderate (0.4%), while in travel agencies it reached 2.7% year-on-year<\/strong>. <\/p>\n

      Combining hospitality and agencies -which account for 67.1% of total tourism employment-, the overall increase was 2.7%<\/strong>, driven by both salaried employees (+3.2%) and the self-employed (+0.5%).<\/p>\n

      Generalized growth in all communities<\/strong><\/h2>\n

      The increase in tourism employment spread to all the autonomous communities during October. In absolute figures, Andalusia<\/strong> registered the highest increase in affiliates, while in relative terms the Balearic Islands led the growth<\/strong>, with 8.9%<\/strong>, followed by Andalusia itself, which recorded a 3.8%<\/strong> increase. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
