Ever since the first electric cars began to take off, the industry has focused its efforts on solving a key problem: the limited range imposed by the graphite in the anodes of lithium-ion batteries. This material, standard for decades, has been a technological ceiling that researchers around the world have been trying to overcome for some time.  <\/p>\n<p data-start=\"977\" data-end=\"1364\">Alternatives such as <strong data-start=\"998\" data-end=\"1009\">silicon<\/strong>, capable of storing much more energy, or <strong data-start=\"1054\" data-end=\"1063\">sodium<\/strong>, which is cheaper and more abundant, have been making headway. With varying degrees of success, they have all paved the way for a new generation of accumulators that promises to <strong data-start=\"1239\" data-end=\"1284\">radically break the current barriers<\/strong> and bring electric vehicles closer to the range of combustion engines. <\/p>\n<h2 data-start=\"1371\" data-end=\"1440\"><strong data-start=\"1374\" data-end=\"1440\">Solid-state batteries: the revolution that is already underway<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p data-start=\"1442\" data-end=\"1794\">Among the most decisive advances, <strong data-start=\"1483\" data-end=\"1518\">solid-state batteries (SSB)<\/strong> stand out as one of the most promising technologies of recent decades. Their fundamental difference lies in the replacement of the liquid electrolyte, which is flammable and susceptible to thermal leakage, with a <strong data-start=\"1724\" data-end=\"1734\">solid<\/strong> electrolyte, which is much more stable, safer and more energy dense. <\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1796\" data-end=\"2199\">Japanese manufacturer <strong data-start=\"1818\" data-end=\"1828\">Toyota<\/strong> is one of the companies that has gained the most ground in this race. The brand continues to advance towards a commercial prototype capable of breaking all durability and autonomy records. According to the company, its new batteries will retain <strong data-start=\"2065\" data-end=\"2134\">up to 90% of their capacity after 40 years of operation<\/strong>, a fourfold increase over the service life of current batteries.  <\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<h5><a href=\"https:\/\/lavozdeibiza.com\/en\/current-news\/a-change-in-the-regulation-on-the-length-of-cars-baffles-ibiza-cab-drivers\/?swcfpc=1\">A change in the regulation on the length of cars baffles Ibiza cab drivers<\/a><\/h5>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p data-start=\"2201\" data-end=\"2531\">This would be a paradigm shift: the same battery could be <strong data-start=\"2265\" data-end=\"2323\">reused in several vehicles over decades<\/strong>, reducing waste, emissions associated with mineral extraction and long-term costs. In environmental terms, purchasing a SSB would be equivalent to replacing up to <strong data-start=\"2496\" data-end=\"2530\">four conventional batteries<\/strong>. <\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2533\" data-end=\"2782\">In addition to their durability, these batteries promise more than <strong data-start=\"2595\" data-end=\"2638\">1,000 kilometers of autonomy per charge<\/strong>, along with <strong data-start=\"2650\" data-end=\"2680\">minimum recharge times<\/strong>, two of the factors that most condition the acceptance of electric vehicles among consumers.<\/p>\n<h2 data-start=\"2789\" data-end=\"2848\"><strong data-start=\"2792\" data-end=\"2848\">A global race to master the energy of tomorrow<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p data-start=\"2850\" data-end=\"3184\">While Toyota accelerates, Asia continues to set the pace. <strong data-start=\"2905\" data-end=\"2913\">CATL<\/strong>, <strong data-start=\"2915\" data-end=\"2922\">BYD<\/strong>, South Korea and China are competing to produce batteries that can be charged in minutes and travel thousands of kilometers. On the other side of the ocean, <strong data-start=\"3065\" data-end=\"3074\">Tesla<\/strong> is working to regain a leading role in a technological battle that could redefine mobility in the 21st century. <\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<h5><a href=\"https:\/\/lavozdeibiza.com\/en\/current-news\/ibiza-marks-the-highest-rent-increase-in-the-balearic-islands-with-a-rise-of-22-8\/?swcfpc=1\">Ibiza marks the highest rent increase in the Balearic Islands with a rise of 22.8%.<\/a><\/h5>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p data-start=\"3186\" data-end=\"3539\">Competition between the United States, China, Korea and Japan is driving an unprecedented revolution: <strong data-start=\"3292\" data-end=\"3340\">safer, longer-lasting and more efficient batteries<\/strong>, capable of definitively erasing the differences between electric and combustion cars. What once seemed like science fiction is already being tested in laboratories, pilot plants and on the road. <\/p>\n<h2 data-start=\"3546\" data-end=\"3595\"><strong data-start=\"3549\" data-end=\"3595\">Toyota sets date for final leap<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p data-start=\"3597\" data-end=\"3852\">Toyota plans to start commercial production of its solid-state batteries between <strong data-start=\"3681\" data-end=\"3696\">2027 and 2028<\/strong>. It will start with luxury models, such as <strong data-start=\"3747\" data-end=\"3756\">Lexus<\/strong> and <strong data-start=\"3759\" data-end=\"3770\">Century<\/strong>, before being extended to more popular vehicles such as the future <strong data-start=\"3833\" data-end=\"3851\">Toyota Corolla<\/strong>. <\/p>\n<p data-start=\"3854\" data-end=\"4276\">The breakthrough, according to <strong data-start=\"3871\" data-end=\"3898\">Interesting Engineering<\/strong>, is the result of a long collaboration with <strong data-start=\"3942\" data-end=\"3967\">Sumitomo Metal Mining<\/strong>, a company with which it has developed highly durable cathode materials using a patented process. This would make the supply chain completely local, lowering costs and ensuring stability in production. <\/p>\n<h2 data-start=\"4585\" data-end=\"4631\"><strong data-start=\"4588\" data-end=\"4631\">A promising future, but with challenges<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p data-start=\"4633\" data-end=\"4940\">Although BSSs represent a giant leap forward, experts warn that mass adoption will take time. Initial costs are very high and manufacturing processes are extremely complex.
