The president of the Government, Marga Prohens, has hinted this Tuesday in the Parliament the possibility of an electoral advance in the Balearic Islands<\/strong>, during the turn of control to the Executive, by warning the PSIB of “what they would tremble if I call them”<\/strong> after a new clash between the PP and Vox. The warning came in Palma<\/strong>, during the plenary session of November 18<\/strong>, after the socialists asked for explanations about the frictions with his former parliamentary partner<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

First open clash after weeks of tension with Vox<\/h2>\n

Prohens’ warning<\/strong> came minutes after a particularly harsh exchange between the president and Vox spokeswoman, Manuela Ca\u00f1adas, on account of accusations of lack of transparency in the negotiations between the two parties. Ca\u00f1adas had stated that they would come with “tape recorders”<\/strong> to the meetings with the PP to monitor possible breaches of the Balearic Law of Obtaining Land<\/strong>, a statement that ignited tempers in the House. <\/p>\n

The PSIB spokesman, Iago Negueruela<\/strong>, took that episode to demand the appearance of the president and demand that she explain “what the Government agrees with Vox in closed offices”.<\/strong> According to him, Ca\u00f1adas’ words suggested urban planning agreements negotiated outside the institutional circuit. The PSIB recalled that this political tension can affect such sensitive measures as territorial planning (which impacts, for example, on the<\/strong> pilot plan to send waste from Ibiza to Mallorca<\/a>).<\/strong> <\/p>\n

“What they would tremble if I summoned them”: the phrase that stirred up the opposition bench<\/h2>\n

Prohens responded by assuring that the PSIB “would tremble”<\/strong> if its own conversations with Vox were known and slipped that it could call the polls. The comment provoked shouts of “Elections” and knocks on the seats<\/strong>, an unusual gesture in an autonomic plenary.<\/p>\n

The president also accused Negueruela of being “disconnected from the street”<\/strong> and of “imagining movies”,<\/strong> while claiming that all the laws promoted by her Executive are “public and transparent”.<\/strong> Each paragraph of this information contains bold letters to enhance its SEO<\/strong>, in accordance with the internal guidelines of the media.<\/p>\n

Negueruela: “Call elections; we are not afraid of the ballot box”.<\/h2>\n

In his reply, the socialist spokesman said that the Government is “blocked”<\/strong> by his disagreements with Vox and challenged Prohens to bring forward the elections, assuring that the PSIB does not fear an early call. He also pointed out that the PSPV lives an “unworthy”<\/strong> situation in the Valencian Community, referring to the parliamentary climate in that region. <\/p>\n

Prohens replied that “no democrat is afraid of the ballot box”<\/strong> and attributed the tone of his intervention to the insinuations of the PSIB about the talks between the Popular Party and Vox. She added that she can take stock of “two years of legislature”,<\/strong> something that -she said- “the Government of Spain cannot do”.<\/strong> <\/p>\n

Government defends its legislative activity against accusations of paralysis<\/h2>\n

Negueruela stressed that the Balearic Executive is “paralyzed” despite having “more resources from the State than ever”.<\/strong> Prohens replied with a list of the measures approved in recent months: the two previous budgets<\/strong>, the spending ceiling for 2026<\/strong> -still pending parliamentary validation- and other legislative initiatives underway. <\/p>\n

“If this is paralysis, let S\u00e1nchez come and see”,<\/strong> the president finished off, in a phrase that generated new protests in the opposition. This new episode aggravates the institutional fracture between PP and Vox, which has been advancing since the breaking of the discipline of vote in September and October in key initiatives of the Govern. <\/p>\n

Prohens’ turnaround<\/h2>\n

The mention of early elections is a striking turn of events with respect to what the president herself expressed until recently. Until now, the leader of the Balearic PP flatly rejected an advance of the autonomic elections and defended that her goal was to exhaust the legislature<\/g>. Prohens sought to reinforce her institutional profile and to dissociate herself from the pressures of Genova in favor of an electoral “super Sunday”<\/g>. In addition, the president was trying to stabilize her Govern after the political -and almost personal- rupture with Vox, staged in the General Policy Debate. <\/p>\n
