{"id":138225,"date":"2025-11-18T18:57:09","date_gmt":"2025-11-18T17:57:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/lavozdeibiza.com\/sin-categorizar\/the-largest-search-for-francoist-reprisals-begins-in-ibiza\/"},"modified":"2025-11-18T18:57:09","modified_gmt":"2025-11-18T17:57:09","slug":"the-largest-search-for-francoist-reprisals-begins-in-ibiza","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/lavozdeibiza.com\/en\/current-news\/the-largest-search-for-francoist-reprisals-begins-in-ibiza\/","title":{"rendered":"The largest search for Francoist reprisals begins in Ibiza"},"content":{"rendered":"<p data-start=\"859\" data-end=\"1436\"><strong data-start=\"859\" data-end=\"968\">The new excavation of the V Graves Plan has begun this week in the old cemetery of Ses Figueretes<\/strong>, in the municipality of Ibiza, where <strong data-start=\"1013\" data-end=\"1060\">up to 70 people killed in 1936 and 1937<\/strong> are being sought, as confirmed by the Conselleria de Presidencia, Coordinaci\u00f3n de la Acci\u00f3n de Gobierno y Cooperaci\u00f3n Local. <strong data-start=\"1172\" data-end=\"1216\">The intervention, considered a priority<\/strong>, aims to advance in the recovery and identification of victims of the Civil War and Franco&#8217;s repression.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<h4><a href=\"https:\/\/lavozdeibiza.com\/actualidad\/un-homenaje-unico-por-todos-los-santos-las-historias-detras-de-las-nuevas-placas-en-ibiza\/?swcfpc=1\">A unique tribute for All Saints&#8217; Day: the stories behind the new plaques in Ibiza<\/a><\/h4>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<h4><a href=\"https:\/\/lavozdeibiza.com\/actualidad\/exhumaran-en-el-cementerio-de-ses-figueretes-una-fosa-de-la-guerra-civil\/?swcfpc=1\">Exhumation of Civil War graves in Ibiza and Formentera cemeteries<\/a><\/h4>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p data-start=\"1438\" data-end=\"1783\"><strong data-start=\"1438\" data-end=\"1498\">The work will continue until &#8220;May or June&#8221; of 2026<\/strong>, according to the Government at the opening ceremony of the excavation of the first grave, which marks the fourth phase of the search in this enclave of Vila. <strong data-start=\"1645\" data-end=\"1694\">At each stage new remains have been confirmed<\/strong>, which has prompted the Balearic Executive to maintain the pace of exhumations on the island.<\/p>\n<h2 data-start=\"1785\" data-end=\"1837\"><strong data-start=\"1789\" data-end=\"1837\">A two-year, 842,000-euro intervention<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p data-start=\"1838\" data-end=\"2415\"><strong data-start=\"1838\" data-end=\"1954\">The V Graves Plan, awarded in July 2025 to the joint venture formed by the Sociedad de Ciencias Aranzadi and ATICS SL<\/strong>, has a duration of 24 months and a total budget of <strong data-start=\"2018\" data-end=\"2038\">841,900.46 euros<\/strong>, slightly rounded up by the Executive in its public presentation to <strong data-start=\"2109\" data-end=\"2126\">842,000 euros.<\/strong> The project contemplates actions in <strong data-start=\"2165\" data-end=\"2186\">12 locations<\/strong> -eight in Mallorca, one in Ibiza and three in Formentera- based on the studies of the Technical Commission of Missing Persons and Graves. <\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2417\" data-end=\"2619\"><strong data-start=\"2417\" data-end=\"2455\">The plan is divided into two lots<\/strong>: one for excavation, exhumation and identification, and the other for <strong data-start=\"2519\" data-end=\"2565\">restoration, conservation and documentation<\/strong> of the materials recovered in previous campaigns.<\/p>\n<h2 data-start=\"2621\" data-end=\"2685\"><strong data-start=\"2625\" data-end=\"2685\">Three victims identified and thirteen families are still waiting<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p data-start=\"2686\" data-end=\"3286\"><strong data-start=\"2686\" data-end=\"2740\">So far, three people<\/strong> whose remains were found in previous interventions <strong data-start=\"2686\" data-end=\"2740\">have been identified<\/strong>: <strong data-start=\"2797\" data-end=\"2868\">Bartolom\u00e9 Costa Serra, Mariano Castell\u00f3 Castell and Josep Vidal Ramon<\/strong>, located thanks to genetic analysis carried out in 2024, and became the <strong data-start=\"2951\" data-end=\"2995\">first victims identified in Ibiza<\/strong>. <strong data-start=\"2999\" data-end=\"3035\">The remains were found mixed<\/strong>, since the area was altered by later burials, which makes searches difficult. Even so, <strong data-start=\"3133\" data-end=\"3221\">there are 13 families on the island who are still waiting to find their missing<\/strong>, according to Government sources consulted at the start of the campaign. <\/p>\n<p data-start=\"3288\" data-end=\"3603\"><strong data-start=\"3325\" data-end=\"3374\">Three archaeological campaigns<\/strong> had already been carried out at Figueretes <strong data-start=\"3325\" data-end=\"3374\">between 2018 and 2022<\/strong>, in addition to the interventions of <strong data-start=\"3412\" data-end=\"3431\">Plans III and IV<\/strong>, which made it possible to locate remains and confirm the presence of multiple victims.<\/p>\n<h2 data-start=\"3605\" data-end=\"3668\"><strong data-start=\"3609\" data-end=\"3668\">A work subject to archaeological and forensic protocols<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p data-start=\"3669\" data-end=\"4192\">The technical teams apply the <strong data-start=\"3702\" data-end=\"3788\">protocols of the Spanish Association of Anthropology and Forensic Odontology (AEAOF)<\/strong>: manual stratigraphic excavation, topographic and photographic registration, individualized extraction of remains and genetic analysis in the <strong data-start=\"3938\" data-end=\"3959\">BIOMICs (UPV\/EHU)<\/strong> and <strong data-start=\"3965\" data-end=\"3986\">ancient DNA (UAB)<\/strong> laboratories. <strong data-start=\"3990\" data-end=\"4062\">The current intervention will be carried out for three or four weeks<\/strong>, before moving the work to <strong data-start=\"4098\" data-end=\"4125\">Formentera after Christmas<\/strong> and then to <strong data-start=\"4145\" data-end=\"4157\">Mallorca<\/strong>, within the same regional plan.<\/p>\n<h2 data-start=\"4194\" data-end=\"4231\"><strong data-start=\"4198\" data-end=\"4231\">Commitment to Law 10\/2016<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p data-start=\"4232\" data-end=\"4842\">The Govern recalled that it remains committed to <strong data-start=\"4284\" data-end=\"4341\">Law 10\/2016 for the recovery of people who disappeared<\/strong> during the Civil War and the dictatorship.
