The news, confirmed by his partner, <strong data-start=\"814\" data-end=\"833\">Delbert McBride<\/strong>, and reported by <em data-start=\"852\" data-end=\"861\">Variety<\/em>, brings to an end a career as extensive as it is heterogeneous: more than two hundred titles, dozens of collaborations with key authors and a biography worthy of the films he starred in. <\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1059\" data-end=\"1514\">Throughout his life, Kier was a <strong data-start=\"1091\" data-end=\"1152\">close friend of Andy Warhol, David Hockney or Keith Haring<\/strong>, artists with whom he shared an irreverent, provocative vision, deeply linked to the creative world of the seventies and eighties. In cinema, his figure was forever associated with directors such as <strong data-start=\"1356\" data-end=\"1419\">Paul Morrissey, Dario Argento, Gus Van Sant, Lars von Trier<\/strong> and, above all, <strong data-start=\"1435\" data-end=\"1463\">Rainer Werner Fassbinder<\/strong>, who made him one of his fetish actors. <\/p>\n<h2 data-start=\"1521\" data-end=\"1600\"><strong data-start=\"1524\" data-end=\"1600\">A cult actor who found his first major leading role at age 76<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p data-start=\"1602\" data-end=\"2084\">Although his career was filled with memorable supporting roles, in <strong data-start=\"1677\" data-end=\"1725\">2021 Kier landed his first starring role<\/strong> with Todd Stephens in the film <em data-start=\"1769\" data-end=\"1780\">Swan Song<\/em>. That childhood left an indelible mark. He himself recalled that he was a vegetarian &#8220;<strong data-start=\"2414\" data-end=\"2471\">because my mother could only give me soups, soups and soups<\/strong>&#8220;.  <\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2475\" data-end=\"2949\">At the age of 17, he left for England, not with the idea of becoming an actor, but with a completely different plan: &#8220;I&#8217;m going to be an actor.<strong data-start=\"2584\" data-end=\"2693\">Not because I wanted to be an actor. What I wanted was to work in a Bayer-type company and travel the world. <\/strong>&#8220;. But his destiny changed radically when he began to be observed by agents and photographers at a time when &#8220;<strong data-start=\"2809\" data-end=\"2861\">the newspapers were talking about the new wave of cinema<\/strong>&#8220;. That friendship eventually developed into a fruitful artistic relationship that placed Kier in some of the most transgressive projects of the New German Cinema.  <\/p>\n<h2 data-start=\"3377\" data-end=\"3446\"><strong data-start=\"3380\" data-end=\"3446\">Memoirs of an actor who remembered sensations more than scripts.<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p data-start=\"3448\" data-end=\"3768\">Kier admitted that he rarely remembered the scripts of his films; what remained in his memory were the moments before he accepted a role. About his participation in Gus Van Sant&#8217;s <em data-start=\"3619\" data-end=\"3637\">My Private Idaho<\/em>, he said, &#8220;<strong data-start=\"3666\" data-end=\"3766\">I thought that directors must be very lonely at festivals and that&#8217;s why they offer roles<\/strong>. <\/p>\n<p data-start=\"3770\" data-end=\"4071\">He had a very different memory of Alexander Payne: the shared meal. &#8220;The tuna tower with avocado&#8221; was what stuck with him from <g id=\"gid_0\">A Big Life<\/g>. That meeting marked the beginning of more than three decades of collaboration and friendship.
