The Santa Eul\u00e0ria des Riu<\/strong> Town Council has initiated the procedure to modify the Tax Ordinance that regulates the fee for the collection, shelter and adoption of pets in urban environment<\/strong>, with the aim of adjusting prices to the real costs of the service and facilitate the responsible adoption of abandoned animals.<\/p>\n

The proposal, which will be submitted for initial approval at the plenary session in December, introduces specific changes in adoption fees, while maintaining unchanged the amounts corresponding to the collection of animals, their stay in the municipal center and basic veterinary services, such as microchip placement, health passport or rabies vaccination.<\/p>\n

During 2025, a total of 88 adoptions<\/strong> have been registered in the municipality , of which 64 were dogs, 17 cats and the remaining seven corresponded to other types of animals.<\/strong> Precisely, the most relevant change of the new ordinance affects the adoption of dogs, by eliminating the age differentiation that existed until now. Under the current regulations, adopting a dog under three years of<\/strong> age cost 85 euros, as opposed to the 65 euros paid for older animals.<\/strong> With the new wording, a single fee of 65 euros is established for all dogs, which means a reduction in the case of younger dogs and a simplification of the administrative procedure. <\/p>\n

The amendment also reduces and standardizes adoption fees for other animals.<\/strong> Thus, the adoption of equines and other domestic animals is now set at 65 euros, while the adoption of cats is maintained at a symbolic rate of five euros, in line with municipal policies to encourage adoption and control abandonment.<\/p>\n

Another novelty of the ordinance is the incorporation, for the first time, of a specific fee for obtaining canine DNA, which is set at 37.50 euros. This measure will allow adapting the municipal regulations to the new tools for animal identification and control, reinforcing the fight against abandonment and promoting responsible dog ownership. <\/p>\n

After its initial approval at the December plenary session, the amendment will be subject to a public exhibition period of thirty working days, during which the public will be able to consult the file and submit allegations through the notice board and the municipal electronic office.<\/p>\n

The Councilor for the Environment of Santa Eul\u00e0ria, Monica Madrid, stressed that “this update of the ordinance does not increase the cost of the collection service or animal sheltering, but seeks to improve its economic sustainability and, especially, to facilitate adoption so that more animals can find a new home”.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
