The request is part of the investigation into alleged irregularities in the purchase of masks during the pandemic of covid-19. <\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<h5><a href=\"https:\/\/lavozdeibiza.com\/en\/current-news\/cerdan-dissociates-himself-from-the-koldo-case-i-did-not-control-a-single-euro\/?swcfpc=1\">Cerd\u00e1n dissociates himself from the &#8216;Koldo case&#8217;: &#8220;I did not control a single euro&#8221;.<\/a><\/h5>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p data-start=\"660\" data-end=\"1109\">In a document to which <strong data-start=\"698\" data-end=\"714\">Europa Press<\/strong> has had access, the defense of the deputy requests the revocation of the indictment and argues that several of the crimes he is charged with fit within the competences of the popular jury, as stated in the <strong data-start=\"921\" data-end=\"961\">Organic Law of the Jury Court<\/strong>. Specifically, he refers to the crimes of <strong data-start=\"1004\" data-end=\"1054\">bribery, influence peddling and embezzlement<\/strong>, which he considers to be typical of this type of prosecution. <\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<h5><a href=\"https:\/\/lavozdeibiza.com\/en\/current-news\/guardia-civil-arrests-diez-and-fernandez-in-an-operation-on-contracts-and-links-to-koldo-case\/?swcfpc=1\">Guardia Civil arrests D\u00edez and Fern\u00e1ndez in an operation on contracts and links to Koldo case<\/a><\/h5>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p data-start=\"1111\" data-end=\"1489\">According to the brief, only two of the crimes included in the indictment &#8211;<strong data-start=\"1180\" data-end=\"1239\">criminal<\/strong>organization<strong data-start=\"1180\" data-end=\"1239\">and insider trading &#8211;<\/strong>would not fall within the scope of the jury. However, the defense argues that the main weight of the charges falls on the crimes that do fall under the jurisdiction of the popular jury, so these should &#8220;drag&#8221; the rest and not the other way around. <\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1491\" data-end=\"1830\">\u00c1balos also recalls his status as <strong data-start=\"1530\" data-end=\"1566\">aforado before the Supreme Court<\/strong>, but defends that this does not prevent the trial from being held with a popular jury. In this sense, he points out that the High Court would maintain the competence, although with a special composition of the Chamber, formed by a magistrate-president and nine sworn citizens. precedent, the defense cites the case of the former president of the Generalitat Valenciana, <strong data-start=\"1919\" data-end=\"1938\">Francisco Camps<\/strong>, whose case for the alleged acceptance of gifts was heard before a popular jury in the Superior Court of Justice of the Valencian Community and ended with an <strong data-start=\"2118\" data-end=\"2143\">acquittal<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2146\" data-end=\"2445\">Jos\u00e9 Luis \u00c1balos became the <strong data-start=\"2182\" data-end=\"2246\">first sitting national deputy to go to prison<\/strong> and faces <strong data-start=\"2263\" data-end=\"2304\">requests for up to 30 years in jail<\/strong> for his alleged involvement in the irregularities detected in the
