{"id":147214,"date":"2025-12-28T08:54:53","date_gmt":"2025-12-28T07:54:53","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/lavozdeibiza.com\/sin-categorizar\/pp-offensive-against-the-governments-permissiveness-towards-squatting-and-the-legal-insecurity-for-landlords\/"},"modified":"2025-12-28T08:54:53","modified_gmt":"2025-12-28T07:54:53","slug":"pp-offensive-against-the-governments-permissiveness-towards-squatting-and-the-legal-insecurity-for-landlords","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/lavozdeibiza.com\/en\/current-news\/pp-offensive-against-the-governments-permissiveness-towards-squatting-and-the-legal-insecurity-for-landlords\/","title":{"rendered":"PP offensive against the Government&#8217;s permissiveness towards squatting and the legal insecurity for landlords"},"content":{"rendered":"<p data-start=\"619\" data-end=\"989\">The Popular Party of the Balearic Islands has intensified its offensive against the central government for the <strong data-start=\"713\" data-end=\"753\">paralysis of the anti-occupation law<\/strong>, while the president of the Consell de Ibiza, <strong data-start=\"806\" data-end=\"821\">Vicent Mar\u00ed<\/strong>, warns that <strong data-start=\"839\" data-end=\"908\">without legal certainty many owners will not return to rent<\/strong> and that the occupation and non-payment are aggravating the housing crisis on the island.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"991\" data-end=\"1336\">The <em>Popular Party<\/em> has registered in the Parliament a <strong data-start=\"1042\" data-end=\"1073\">Proposition Not of Law (PNL)<\/strong> to urge the president of the Congress of Deputies, the socialist <strong data-start=\"1133\" data-end=\"1154\">Francina Armengol<\/strong>, to <strong data-start=\"1158\" data-end=\"1192\">immediately unblock<\/strong> the Proposition of Organic Law against the illegal occupation of homes and premises, approved in the Senate and <strong data-start=\"1299\" data-end=\"1335\">paralyzed since February 2024<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<h3 data-start=\"1338\" data-end=\"1407\">PP accuses Armengol of &#8220;blocking&#8221; the protection of property owners<\/h3>\n<p data-start=\"1409\" data-end=\"1745\">In a press release, the PP spokesman in the Parliament, <strong data-start=\"1468\" data-end=\"1489\">Sebasti\u00e0 Sagreras<\/strong>, argues that Armengol is blocking a rule that &#8220;protects owners and neighbors&#8221; and denounces that this situation <strong data-start=\"1618\" data-end=\"1662\">leaves thousands of citizens unprotected<\/strong> while increasing cases of illegal squatting and &#8216;inquiokupaci\u00f3n&#8217; in the Balearic Islands.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1747\" data-end=\"2031\">According to the PP, the law promoted in the Senate would make it possible to <strong data-start=\"1801\" data-end=\"1857\">speed up evictions in a period of up to 24 hours<\/strong>, strengthen criminal sanctions and apply complementary measures such as the <strong data-start=\"1932\" data-end=\"1989\">prohibition of registering in occupied dwellings<\/strong> and tax benefits for those affected.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2033\" data-end=\"2367\">&#8220;The legitimate effort of families to access housing cannot be violated by squatting and the passivity of those who have the obligation to process the law,&#8221; says Sagreras, who insists that the initiative <strong data-start=\"2267\" data-end=\"2316\">does not question social housing policies<\/strong>, but seeks to protect those who comply with the law.<\/p>\n<h3 data-start=\"2369\" data-end=\"2443\">Mar\u00ed: &#8220;Without clear rules, the small owner will not rent again&#8221;.<\/h3>\n<p data-start=\"2445\" data-end=\"2681\">The PP&#8217;s criticisms coincide with the diagnosis expressed by <strong data-start=\"2508\" data-end=\"2523\">Vicent Mar\u00ed<\/strong> in interviews published on Sunday in <em>Diario de Ibiza<\/em> and <em>Peri\u00f3dico de Ibiza y Formentera<\/em>, in which he directly links the lack of legal security with the <strong data-start=\"2621\" data-end=\"2671\">withdrawal of homes from the rental market<\/strong> in Ibiza.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2683\" data-end=\"2944\">&#8220;The solution is not only to build more, but also for empty homes or those that disappear from the illegal market to be used again for residential rental. For this, <strong>it is essential that there is legal certainty<\/strong>,&#8221; says the president of the Consell. <\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2946\" data-end=\"3311\">Mar\u00ed warns that, <strong data-start=\"2968\" data-end=\"3055\">without clear rules that allow evicting a property in case of occupation or non-payment<\/strong>, many small owners with bad experiences choose not to rent: &#8220;If there is no legal framework that prevents them from taking years to recover their property, they will not put it back on the market.
