The measure, according to the sector&#8217;s businessmen, <strong data-start=\"976\" data-end=\"1054\">will have a direct impact on the final prices paid by the consumer.<\/strong> <\/p>\n<ul>\n<li data-start=\"1056\" data-end=\"1351\">\n<h5><a href=\"https:\/\/lavozdeibiza.com\/en\/current-news\/freight-rate-hike-in-sight-after-driver-wins-ruling\/?swcfpc=1\">Freight rate hike in sight after driver wins ruling<\/a><\/h5>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p data-start=\"1056\" data-end=\"1351\">The court ruling recognizes as working time the period the driver spends on the ship <strong data-start=\"1194\" data-end=\"1239\">guarding the vehicle during the crossing<\/strong>, which could open the door to new claims by other workers in similar conditions.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1353\" data-end=\"1859\"><strong data-start=\"1353\" data-end=\"1373\">Ezequiel Horrach<\/strong>, representative of the freight transport business group, considers that this decision marks a before and after in the logistics of the archipelago. &#8220;If this problem is not solved, <strong data-start=\"1571\" data-end=\"1633\">it will be the consumer who will end up paying for these extra hours<\/strong>,&#8221; he warned <em>Diario de Mallorca<\/em>. <\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1353\" data-end=\"1859\">In his opinion, the judicial criterion <strong data-start=\"1686\" data-end=\"1747\">breaks with what is applied in road transport<\/strong>, where the driver&#8217;s downtime, even if he sleeps inside the truck, is not considered a working day.<\/p>\n<h2 data-start=\"1866\" data-end=\"1917\">An added cost in an already expensive logistics system<\/h2>\n<p data-start=\"1919\" data-end=\"2221\">From the employers recall that the transport of goods to the Balearic Islands <strong data-start=\"1990\" data-end=\"2058\">triples the cost of a land route of the same distance<\/strong>, due to the insularity. However, this alternative would imply <strong data-start=\"2755\" data-end=\"2791\">an increase in delivery time<\/strong> and the risk of <strong data-start=\"2807\" data-end=\"2849\">shortage of certain products<\/strong>, as Horrach himself has warned. <\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2890\" data-end=\"3208\">The TSJB ruling is in line with other judicial pronouncements that consider crossing time as part of the working day. This interpretation <strong data-start=\"3051\" data-end=\"3089\">worries companies in the sector<\/strong>, as drivers could start <strong data-start=\"3133\" data-end=\"3164\">claiming retroactive payments<\/strong> for this type of maritime travel. <\/p>\n<h3 data-start=\"3215\" data-end=\"3296\">Employers insist that the driver &#8220;rests and eats&#8221; during the crossing<\/h3>\n<p data-start=\"3298\" data-end=\"3641\">Horrach has insisted that, during the ferry trip, <strong data-start=\"3357\" data-end=\"3420\">the truck drivers are disconnected from their usual activity<\/strong>, rest in cabins paid by the company and do not receive orders.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"3298\" data-end=\"3641\">&#8220;<strong data-start=\"3492\" data-end=\"3623\">We do not understand that this time is paid as overtime, when even on the road the downtime is not computed as such<\/strong>,&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"3643\" data-end=\"3882\">The sector assures that this judicial criterion <strong data-start=\"3695\" data-end=\"3733\">distorts the current labor framework<\/strong> and calls for urgent political intervention. &#8220;It is essential that
