Sant Antoni de Portmany<\/strong> will once again become the epicenter of traditional Ibizan gastronomy<\/strong> with the celebration of the XIII edition of the World Rice Competition of Matanzas<\/strong>, which will take place on Saturday, February 7.<\/strong> The contest is part of the program of the festivities of Sant Antoni<\/strong> and is one of the most important events of the festive calendar of the Piti\u00fcses.<\/p>\n

The contest maintains its popular and participatory character, and this year incorporates as a novelty cash prizes<\/strong>, in addition to the traditional awards. In addition, the World Rice Contest of Matanzas Junior<\/strong> will be held again, aimed at educational centers of the island.<\/p>\n

Opening of the registration period<\/strong><\/h2>\n

The City Council of Sant Antoni de Portmany<\/strong> has announced that the registration period<\/strong> to participate in the main competition will open on Monday, January 14<\/strong>, from 9.00 am<\/strong>, in the establishment Es Clot<\/strong>, located in Ample Street, 15.<\/strong> As in previous editions, places are limited<\/strong> and registration must be done in person<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

A consolidated and record-breaking competition<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Consolidated as one of the most popular gastronomic events in Ibiza<\/strong>, the World Rice Competition of Matanzas brings together every year numerous teams from both the municipality of Sant Antoni<\/strong> and other parts of Ibiza, the Balearic Islands and the Peninsula.<\/strong><\/p>\n

In the last edition, the competition reached a record number of participants<\/strong>, with 150 teams registered<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Cash prizes as the main novelty<\/strong><\/h2>\n

As a novelty in this thirteenth edition, the contest will incorporate cash prizes<\/strong> for the best-ranked teams. The first prize<\/strong> will be 750 euros<\/strong>, the second<\/strong> prize will be 500 euros<\/strong> and the third<\/strong> prize will be 250 euros.<\/strong><\/p>\n

These awards are in addition to the traditional prizes<\/strong>, which include a lot of typical products<\/strong> for the first three winners and, in the case of the winning team, a steel sculpture inspired by the matanza rice.<\/strong><\/p>\n

A festive day with multiple activities<\/strong><\/h2>\n

In addition to the culinary competition, the day of February 7<\/strong> will feature a popular rice<\/strong>, musical performances<\/strong>, solidarity actions<\/strong>, animation<\/strong>, ball pag\u00e8s<\/strong> and the subsequent awards ceremony<\/strong>, reinforcing the festive and community character of the event.<\/p>\n

The junior contest is once again committed to young people<\/strong><\/h2>\n

As a complement to the main competition, the program includes the third edition of the Matanzas Junior World Rice Competition<\/strong>, aimed at raising funds for study trips<\/strong>. This initiative, incorporated as a novelty in 2024<\/strong>, is aimed at primary and secondary schools<\/strong> on the island.<\/p>\n

Teams, consisting of a maximum of 15 students<\/strong>, must be accompanied by adults<\/strong>, whether family members, members of parents’ associations or teachers from the school.<\/p>\n

Rules of the World Junior Matanzas Rice Competition<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Participants in the junior contest must bring their own ingredients and cooking utensils<\/strong> and cook a minimum of one kilo of rice<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

The event will be held on Friday, February 6<\/strong>, starting at 11.00 a.m.<\/strong>, in the Plaza de s’Era d’en Many\u00e0<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Prizes<\/strong> will be awarded to the first three winners<\/strong>, with endowments of 750 euros for first place<\/strong>, 500 euros for second place<\/strong> and 250 euros for third place.<\/strong><\/p>\n
