The Balearic Parliament<\/strong><\/a> is preparing to vote before the end of October the new law that will regulate the entry of vehicles in Ibiza<\/strong>, with the aim of reducing traffic saturation and improve mobility on the island. The text, which will be tested in the last plenary session of the month in the Parliament, has received a majority consensus of almost all political parties<\/a>, with the exception of Vox. One of the key points is when this regulation will come into force, as it requires a series of procedures and infrastructures that will not be easy to implement. And, above all, fast. An amendment by the PSOE and accepted by the rest of the groups sets the beginning of the application of the law in May 2025, that is, before the start of the next tourist season. So it will be, but in a limited way. Or very limited if compared with the objective of the rule promoted by the PP government in the Consell de Ibiza. The popular<\/em> deputy Jacobo Varela<\/strong> has confirmed that the application will be gradual: “Our intention is to start at the beginning of the season. It will not be immediate; first we will start with the limitations to caravans and rental fleets and we will see how it evolves”.<\/p>\n

Sanctions for caravans<\/h2>\n

Thus, he stressed that caravans without reservations in authorized campsites will receive sanctions: “Those who are already on the island will be notified, and those who do not comply with the rules will be fined”. The management of the restrictions will initially fall to the Consell de Ibiza<\/strong>, while the creation of the Consorcio de Movilidad<\/strong>, a key body that will assume the coordination of the measures and the application of sanctions, moves forward. “We still can’t set a concrete time for everything to be in place. First we need to pass the law, then publish it in the BOIB and, from there, carry out the necessary load studies,” Varela explained. These studies will make it possible to establish the limits of vehicles allowed on the island during the high season and adjust the restrictions according to tourist demand.<\/p>\n

Long-term outlook<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Although the process for the full implementation of the regulation will be gradual, the law is intended to be a turning point in the management of traffic and mobility in Ibiza<\/a>.
