The State Meteorological Agency (AEMET)<\/strong> has activated the orange alert for rainfall<\/strong> in Ibiza and Formentera, with heavy rainfall forecast that could leave up to 50 liters per square meter in an hour<\/strong>. The alert will be in force until 19:59 hours this Friday<\/strong>. In view of this situation, the Emergency Service 112<\/strong> has activated the Severity Index 1 (IG1)<\/strong> of the Meteobal Plan, due to the high risk to people and property. A “complicated day”<\/strong> is expected, so Emergencies has issued a series of recommendations for the population. <\/p>\n

Safety recommendations due to the rain alert in Ibiza and Formentera<\/strong><\/h3>\n

At home<\/strong>:<\/h4>\n
    \n
  • Secure doors and windows and stay in high areas.<\/li>\n
  • Remove objects from the exterior that may be washed away by the water.<\/li>\n
  • Move medicines, important documents, food and drinking water to safe places inside the house.<\/li>\n
  • Avoid basements or garages and, if water begins to enter the house, turn off the main power switch.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

    Outside<\/strong>:<\/h4>\n
      \n
    • Stay away from streams and flooding areas.<\/li>\n
    • In urban areas, seek shelter in a safe building.<\/li>\n
    • Avoid walking in areas with moving water, which can be very dangerous.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

      On the road<\/strong>:<\/h4>\n
        \n
      • Avoid driving if it is not necessary.<\/li>\n
      • If you must drive, do so on highways, freeways or main roads, moderating your speed and increasing the safety distance.<\/li>\n
      • If visibility is poor, stop the vehicle and signal your position.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

        Additional precautions for driving in flooded areas<\/strong><\/h3>\n
          \n
        • Do not cross areas with accumulated water, even if it appears to be little, as cars may float and be swept away.<\/li>\n
        • If the car starts to be dragged, get out of the vehicle as soon as possible through the window.<\/li>\n
        • Abandon the vehicle and move to higher ground if the water level reaches the car’s axle.<\/li>\n
        • Carry a charged cell phone and sufficient fuel, and do not park on bridges, sidewalks or at the mouth of streams.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
