After a first frustrated attempt, which led to a patrimonial claim against the Port Authority of Algeciras, <strong>Trasmapi<\/strong> has submitted a formal request to operate the line between Algeciras and Ceuta through <strong>Ceuta Lines<\/strong>, its subsidiary created for this purpose. On this occasion, the company seeks to operate with one of its two twin fast ferries, <em>Chenega<\/em> or <em>Fairweather<\/em>, purchased at auction in Alaska and modernized by the shipping company headed by <a href=\"https:\/\/lavozdeibiza.com\/actualidad\/2024\/02\/04\/nos-sorprende-que-el-plan-especial-reduzca-edificabilidad-en-marina-ibiza\/\">Marcos Mar\u00ed<\/a>. With a capacity of 400 passengers and space for 65 vehicles, these vessels cover the Alcudia Ciutadella line and sometimes also provide service between Ibiza and Formentera to cover the obligatory dry dockage of the <a href=\"https:\/\/lavozdeibiza.com\/actualidad\/2024\/02\/04\/sobran-frecuencias-entre-ibiza-y-formentera-pero-la-reduccion-nos-ha-de-afectar-a-todos-de-forma-proporcional\/\"><em>Castavi Jet<\/em><\/a>. The news was advanced by <em>ferrybalear<\/em> and confirmed to <strong>La Voz de Ibiza<\/strong> by the company.<\/p>\n<h2><strong>A project marked by failed attempts and entrepreneurial persistence<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/lavozdeibiza.com\/actualidad\/2023\/10\/02\/trasmapi-aparca-el-proyecto-de-expandirse-fuera-de-baleares-hasta-tener-garantias-del-puerto-de-algeciras\/\"><strong>Trasmapi<\/strong><\/a>&#8216;s history <a href=\"https:\/\/lavozdeibiza.com\/actualidad\/2023\/10\/02\/trasmapi-aparca-el-proyecto-de-expandirse-fuera-de-baleares-hasta-tener-garantias-del-puerto-de-algeciras\/\">in the <strong>Strait<\/strong> has been marked by challenges and obstacles<\/a>. In <strong>October 2023<\/strong>, the company sold the <em>fast ferry<\/em> Incat 045, a vessel it had acquired especially to cover the <strong>Algeciras-Ceuta<\/strong> line, after failing to receive authorization from the <strong>Port Authority of Algeciras<\/strong><strong>(APBA<\/strong>). The sale, described by <strong>Trasmapi<\/strong> as an &#8220;opportunity&#8221; to avoid the cost of keeping the vessel inactive in <strong>Vigo<\/strong>, meant a restructuring of its plans in the region. The decision to sell the ship was not <strong>Trasmapi<\/strong>&#8216;s only move; they also filed a millionaire patrimonial claim against the <strong>APBA<\/strong>, demanding compensation for the losses derived from the refusal to operate in the <strong>Strait<\/strong>, as well as guarantees that the company will be able to compete under fair conditions when it obtains the permits.  <\/p>\n<p>The current request shows <strong>Trasmapi<\/strong> &#8216;s firm intention to expand its reach beyond the <strong>Balearic Islands<\/strong>, where it currently operates routes between <strong>Ibiza and Formentera<\/strong> through <strong>Formentera Lines<\/strong> and Trasmapi itself and the <strong>Alcudia-Ciutadella<\/strong> line under the <strong>Menorca Lines<\/strong> brand. The <strong>Alonso Mar\u00ed Group<\/strong> has underlined its interest in exploring market opportunities and has reaffirmed its willingness to acquire more vessels in the future, provided that the operating conditions in the <strong>Strait<\/strong> allow them adequate profitability.<\/p>\n<h2><strong>Ceuta Lines: a differential offer oriented to local residents<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><strong>Ceuta Lines <\/strong>&#8216; proposal aims to meet the demand of <strong>Ceuta <\/strong>residents with a service tailored to their needs. <a href=\"https:\/\/lavozdeibiza.com\/actualidad\/2024\/07\/21\/trasmapi-vuelve-a-intentar-abrir-una-ruta-en-el-estrecho-opta-al-concurso-de-la-linea-tarifa-tanger\/\">The operation will be structured with four daily departures from each port in low season<\/a>, with an additional rotation in mid-season and up to six departures in high season. <strong>Ceuta Lines<\/strong> &#8216; schedules are designed to differentiate itself from other operators in the region, such as <strong>Trasmediterranea<\/strong>, and seek to establish a local brand that stays overnight in the port of <strong>Ceuta<\/strong>, which strengthens its focus on serving the local community. Both vessels, the <em>Chenega<\/em> and <em>Fairweather<\/em>, built in the <strong>United States<\/strong> between 2004 and 2005 by Derecktor Shipyards, have been retrofitted by <strong>Trasmapi<\/strong> to meet the shipping line&#8217;s sustainability and accessibility requirements. They include the ability to connect to OnShore Power Supply systems, eliminating polluting emissions, noise and vibrations. This fleet adaptation effort is aligned with the objectives of the <strong>Port Authority of Algeciras<\/strong> to promote more sustainable and efficient operations in the region.<\/p>\n<h2><strong>No response from the authorities on Trasmapi&#8217;s application<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>From <strong>La Voz de Ibiza<\/strong> we tried to obtain statements from the <strong>Port Authority of Algeciras<\/strong> and the <strong>Port of Ceuta<\/strong> about the recent application submitted by <strong>Trasmapi<\/strong> and <strong>Ceuta Lines<\/strong> to operate on the <strong>Algeciras-Ceuta<\/strong> line. However, we have not received any response on this issue. The lack of official pronouncement leaves in the air the date of resolution for this request. With this new application, <strong>Trasmapi<\/strong> reaffirms its ambition to establish itself on a route that it considers of general interest, focused in the long term on the expansion of its operations outside <strong>the Balearic Islands<\/strong>. The next move of the <strong>Port Authority<\/strong> and the official response will be key to define if <strong>Trasmapi<\/strong> will finally be able to consolidate its presence in the <strong>Strait of Gibraltar<\/strong>. Meanwhile, the shipping company awaits the resolution of the public tender to which it has applied to operate between <a href=\"https:\/\/lavozdeibiza.com\/actualidad\/2024\/07\/21\/trasmapi-vuelve-a-intentar-abrir-una-ruta-en-el-estrecho-opta-al-concurso-de-la-linea-tarifa-tanger\/\">Tarifa and Tangier<\/a>.
