The three parties represented in the <strong>Consell Insular<\/strong> -Gent per Formentera, Sa Uni\u00f3 de Formentera, PP-Comprom\u00eds and PSIB-PSOE- have joined forces to ask the <strong>Balearic Port Authority (APB)<\/strong> to halt any decision that could compromise this strategic space without first ensuring a participatory and transparent process. In a letter addressed to the president of the APB after the meeting held on <strong>November 27th<\/strong>, the political representatives have expressed their concern about the possible consequences of unifying the management of the port in a single concession for the next <strong>25 years<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/lavozdeibiza.com\/actualidad\/2024\/11\/26\/los-planes-de-futuro-de-autoridad-portuaria-de-baleares-para-la-savina-incompatibles-con-dos-darsenas\/?swcfpc=1\">The future plans of the Port Authority of the Balearic Islands for La Savina, incompatible with two docks<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><strong>The need for an inclusive approach<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>The political groups believe that the current proposals do not solve the problems facing the port and, instead, could have a negative impact on the entire island. As they explain, the proposal does not contemplate fundamental aspects, such as the reservation of spaces for small boats at affordable prices, essential for residents. Nor does it limit the space for large boats, a key aspect to maintain the balance in the use of the port. In addition, they criticize the absence of a process that includes the voices of citizens through the <strong>Council of Entities of Formentera<\/strong>, a forum that they consider essential to address decisions of this caliber.<\/p>\n<h2><strong>An infrastructure with social and economic impact<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>The port of La Savina is not only the only maritime access to Formentera, but also the heart of the island&#8217;s economic and social activity. Therefore, any change in its management model must prioritize the welfare of the local community and ensure sustainable development that preserves the natural and cultural environment of the island.<\/p>\n<h2><strong>Clear demands to APB<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>The political representatives have formally requested the APB to delay any decision on the port until a transparent public debate is held. They have also asked that their position be shared with members of the APB Board of Directors before the issue is discussed at future meetings. Formentera seeks to protect a port that not only physically connects the island to the world, but also represents a fundamental pillar for the identity and future of its community.
