This is how the Ibiza Town Hall explains it"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The iconic sculpture of<strong> <em>Sa Dona Pagesa<\/em><\/strong>by the Mallorcan artist Guillem Terrassa, has been moved this Friday from its original location in<strong>the garden of the Red Cross headquarters, on Avenida de Espa\u00f1a, to the Plaza de Sa Colomina<\/strong>. According to the <a href=\"https:\/\/lavozdeibiza.com\/category\/municipios\/vila\/?swcfpc=1\"><strong>Ibiza Town Hall<\/strong><\/a>This change seeks to give greater visibility to the work, which has been in the same location for more than 40 years. <\/p>\n<p>The mayor of Ibiza,<strong> Rafa Triguero, has led the act of transfer along with part of the government team and the widow of the sculptor, Maribel Juan Roig<\/strong>. The event has aroused great excitement among the passers-by who, surprised, have watched how the sculpture traveled through the streets of the city to its new destination. <\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<h5><a href=\"https:\/\/lavozdeibiza.com\/actualidad\/2025\/02\/07\/el-alcalde-de-vila-califica-de-inaceptable-aun-no-tener-la-fecha-de-apertura-del-parador-de-ibiza\/?swcfpc=1\">The mayor of Vila describes as &#8220;unacceptable&#8221; still no opening date for the Parador of Ibiza<\/a><\/h5>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><strong>A change that generates divided opinions<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>While from the Consistory defend that this new location will allow the sculpture to have a greater prominence within the urban space,  <strong>the PSOE has expressed its disagreement with the decision, describing it as &#8220;improvisation&#8221; and criticizing the lack of dialogue with the citizens.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Moving a symbol of the city without prior consultation is unnecessary. If the government team believes that Sa Colomina needs a sculpture, the solution is not to remove one from another neighborhood, but to call a public contest to choose a new piece,&#8221; the socialists have expressed in a statement.<\/p>\n<p>In addition, the PSOE accuses the municipal government of acting unilaterally and without listening to citizens, comparing this decision with other recent measures that have generated controversy, such as the change of use of Sa Peixateria or the relocation of sports clubs in Parc de la Pau.<\/p>\n<h2><strong>An emblem of the Ibizan identity<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><em>Sa Dona Pagesa<\/em> was inaugurated on May 20, 1987 and, since then, has been a symbol of the cultural roots and traditional identity of Ibiza. The sculpture represents an Ibizan peasant woman dressed in typical clothing, reflecting the importance of the rural world in the history of the island. <\/p>\n<p>With this move, the City Council seeks to revitalize its presence in the city, although the debate on the appropriateness of the decision remains open.
