The organization considers that this situation is <strong data-start=\"539\" data-end=\"557\">&#8220;unsustainable&#8221;<\/strong> for the health and social-health system of the islands and demands urgent measures to prevent further deterioration. <\/p>\n<ul>\n<li data-start=\"254\" data-end=\"672\">\n<h4><a href=\"https:\/\/lavozdeibiza.com\/actualidad\/2025\/02\/12\/las-madres-solteras-disfrutaran-de-un-permiso-de-maternidad-doble-gracias-a-la-lucha-de-una-enfermera-de-ibiza\/?swcfpc=1\">Single mothers to enjoy double maternity leave thanks to the fight of an Ibiza nurse<\/a><\/h4>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3 data-start=\"674\" data-end=\"737\"><strong data-start=\"678\" data-end=\"735\">Andalusia, the main destination for the flight of nurses<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p data-start=\"739\" data-end=\"939\">According to Satse data, <strong data-start=\"774\" data-end=\"863\">half of the nurses who have left the Balearic Islands have chosen Andalusia as their destination<\/strong>, while the rest have been distributed among other autonomous communities.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"941\" data-end=\"1280\">In addition, <strong data-start=\"949\" data-end=\"1129\">some thirty fourth-year students of the Nursing degree at the University of the Balearic Islands (UIB) have requested information on how to work in other countries<\/strong>, mainly in the European Union, which indicates that the migratory trend of health professionals could increase in the coming years.<\/p>\n<h3 data-start=\"1282\" data-end=\"1345\"><strong data-start=\"1286\" data-end=\"1343\">Balearic Islands, at the bottom of Spain in number of nurses<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p data-start=\"1347\" data-end=\"1663\">Satse recalled that the ratio of nurses per inhabitant in the Balearic Islands is <strong data-start=\"1425\" data-end=\"1459\">5.93 per 1,000 inhabitants<\/strong>, one of the lowest in Spain and well below the European average of <strong data-start=\"1532\" data-end=\"1565\">8.5 per 1,000 inhabitants<\/strong>. According to their estimates, it would take <strong data-start=\"1607\" data-end=\"1622\">two decades<\/strong> to reach European standards. <\/p>\n<h3 data-start=\"1665\" data-end=\"1742\"><strong data-start=\"1669\" data-end=\"1740\">Inaccessible housing and low salaries, main causes of flight<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p data-start=\"1744\" data-end=\"2149\">The union points out that <strong data-start=\"1768\" data-end=\"1876\">the exorbitant cost of living in the Balearic Islands and the lack of affordable housing are the main reasons<\/strong> why nurses decide to leave the archipelago. Added to this are the <strong data-start=\"1959\" data-end=\"1994\">precarious working conditions<\/strong>, which include <strong data-start=\"2009\" data-end=\"2146\">temporary contracts, instability in the workforce, high turnover and working hours that are difficult to reconcile with personal life<\/strong>. <\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2151\" data-end=\"2345\">In the case of the private sector, <strong data-start=\"2182\" data-end=\"2254\">salaries are up to 40% lower than in other communities<\/strong>, which leads many professionals to seek opportunities outside the islands.<\/p>\n<h3 data-start=\"2347\" data-end=\"2420\"><strong data-start=\"2351\" data-end=\"2418\">They demand better salaries and compensation for their insularity<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p data-start=\"2422\" data-end=\"2558\">In view of this situation, Satse has demanded <strong data-start=\"2483\" data-end=\"2505\">immediate measures<\/strong> from the administrations to stop the drain of professionals, among them:<\/p>\n<ul data-start=\"2560\" data-end=\"2885\">\n<li data-start=\"2560\" data-end=\"2660\"><strong data-start=\"2562\" data-end=\"2607\">A salary increase in public health care<\/strong> to compensate for the high cost of living in the Balearic Islands.<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"2661\" data-end=\"2760\"><strong data-start=\"2663\" data-end=\"2709\">Improvements in insularity allowances<\/strong> to make employment in the islands more attractive.<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"2761\" data-end=\"2885\"><strong data-start=\"2763\" data-end=\"2807\">Salary increases in private healthcare<\/strong>, where they consider that salaries should be increased by up to <strong data-start=\"2874\" data-end=\"2882\">40%<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p data-start=\"2887\" data-end=\"3087\" data-is-last-node=\"\">The union warns that the lack of nurses <strong data-start=\"2943\" data-end=\"3004\">directly affects the quality of health care<\/strong> and calls for urgent solutions to avoid a collapse in the Balearic health
