The Balearic Government<\/strong> has awarded the Gold Medal of the Autonomous Community<\/strong> to Mar\u00eda Luisa Cava de Llano<\/strong>, former ombudsman and prominent lawyer based in Ibiza<\/strong>, in recognition of her career in the political and legal field. Along with her, the former basketball player Rudy Fern\u00e1ndez<\/strong> has also been awarded. <\/p>\n

Both will receive the distinction on February 28th<\/strong> in a ceremony at the Lonja de Palma<\/strong>, where the Ramon Llull Awards<\/strong> will also be presented to 17 personalities and entities from different sectors.<\/p>\n

A life dedicated to law and public service in the Balearic Islands<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Born in Barcelona in 1948<\/strong>, Mar\u00eda Luisa Cava de Llano<\/strong> has developed an extensive legal and political career<\/strong> in the Balearic Islands<\/strong>, with a special link to Ibiza<\/strong>, where she has lived and practiced most of her activity.<\/p>\n

She was deputy and vice-president of the Balearic Parliament<\/strong>, in addition to holding the position of Ombudsman<\/strong> between 2010 and 2012, where she stood out for her defense of citizens’ rights and her firmness on high-impact social issues.<\/p>\n

Recognition of key figures for the Balearic Islands<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Together with Cava de Llano, the Government has decided to award the Gold Medal<\/strong> to Rudy Fern\u00e1ndez<\/strong>, one of the most successful sportsmen in Spanish basketball. Born in Palma in 1985<\/strong>, he has played in the NBA<\/strong>, has been a key player in Real Madrid<\/strong> and has played in six Olympic Games, winning two silver medals and one bronze medal with the Spanish national team. <\/p>\n

In addition, the Ramon Llull 2024 Awards<\/strong> have been granted to 17 personalities and entities<\/strong> of the Balearic Islands, among them the actress Victoria Luengo<\/strong>, the paratriathlete Nil Riudavets<\/strong> and the Vicente Ferrer Foundation<\/strong>, chaired by Anna Ferrer<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Also honored were nutrition researcher Dora Romaguera<\/strong>, humorist Agust\u00edn Mart\u00ednez, ‘El Casta’,<\/strong> agricultural engineer Joan Rallo<\/strong> and Ibizan designer Tony Bonet<\/strong>, recognized for his contribution to the world of fashion on the island.<\/p>\n

A tribute to diversity and social engagement<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Other recipients of the Ramon Llull Award<\/strong> include Paralympic athlete Joan Munar<\/strong>, the Association of Mothers and Fathers of People with Disabilities (Amadiba)<\/strong> and Grupo Pi\u00f1ero<\/strong>, one of the leading companies in the tourism sector.<\/p>\n

Also awarded were educational and social figures such as Asunci\u00f3n Gallardo<\/strong>, director of the Gabriel Vallseca<\/strong> school in Son Gotleu<\/strong>, the Bartomeu Ensenyat y Estrany Music and Dance School of Mallorca<\/strong>, the Fishermen’s Guild of Formentera<\/strong>, the Salesian Congregation of Ciutadella<\/strong> and the Balearic contingent that collaborated in helping those affected by the hurricane in Valencia<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Posthumously, the lawyer Rafael Perera<\/strong> and the physician Bartolom\u00e9 Beltr\u00e1n<\/strong>, both with an outstanding career in their respective fields, were recognized.<\/p>\n

Official ceremony in Palma<\/strong><\/h3>\n
