employers&#8217; association warns that 18,000 vehicles will not be enough &#8220;if tourist records are broken every year&#8221; and blames cars from the peninsula for the chaos."},"content":{"rendered":"<p data-start=\"805\" data-end=\"1380\">The <strong data-start=\"819\" data-end=\"833\">rent a car<\/strong> sector in Ibiza is still waiting to know <strong data-start=\"872\" data-end=\"919\">how the limitation of vehicles will be applied<\/strong>, a measure that will come into force on <strong data-start=\"956\" data-end=\"970\">June 1<\/strong> and that, in principle, will affect rental fleets and motorhomes.<\/p>\n<p>As advanced by La Voz de Ibiza, the <strong>Consell Insular de Ibiza<\/strong> is working against the clock to bring to the February plenary session the <strong>proposal of quotas<\/strong> and begin to apply, from June, the <a href=\"https:\/\/lavozdeibiza.com\/?s=LEY+LIMITACION+DE+VEHICULOS&amp;lang=es&amp;swcfpc=1\">Law 5\/2024<\/a> to establish a &#8220;<strong>control of the influx of vehicles on the island of Ibiza for tourism sustainability&#8221;,<\/strong> approved on November 11 in the Parliament.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<h3><a href=\"https:\/\/lavozdeibiza.com\/actualidad\/2025\/02\/17\/el-consell-de-ibiza-ya-tiene-fecha-para-el-inicio-de-la-guerra-sin-cuartel-a-las-caravanas\/\">The Consell de Ibiza already has a date for the start of the all-out war on caravans<\/a><\/h3>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p data-start=\"805\" data-end=\"1380\">In this context, the president of the <strong data-start=\"1104\" data-end=\"1177\">Rent a Car Dealers Association of PIMEEF, Juan C\u00e1rdenas<\/strong>, has assured that the <strong data-start=\"1199\" data-end=\"1307\">Consell de Ibiza has not yet communicated the formula with which the quotas will be distributed among the companies<\/strong>, although they expect to receive an official response in the coming weeks.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1382\" data-end=\"1787\">&#8220;<strong data-start=\"1382\" data-end=\"1511\">At the beginning of March we will have an answer on how the distribution of the amount of fleet that is finally decided will be made,&#8221;<\/strong> he said in <strong data-start=\"1052\" data-end=\"1082\">statements to Cadena SER<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1382\" data-end=\"1787\">According to him, <strong data-start=\"1545\" data-end=\"1602\">the figures are between 18,000 and 20,000 vehicles<\/strong>, a number based on previous studies on the sector&#8217;s activity. &#8221; <strong data-start=\"1672\" data-end=\"1770\">We will see if they finally remain at 18,000 or if they go down a little, but the figure will be around those values,&#8221;<\/strong> he assured.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1789\" data-end=\"2202\">Cardenas has made it clear that this limit <strong data-start=\"1833\" data-end=\"1860\">cannot be definitive<\/strong>, since the demand for rental cars is directly linked to the volume of tourists. <strong data-start=\"1951\" data-end=\"2069\">&#8220;If every year we break tourist records, we will have to see if that number, instead of lowering it, has to be increased,&#8221;<\/strong> he has warned. <strong data-start=\"2085\" data-end=\"2187\">&#8220;We must start with a figure and assess over time if it is the right one or if it has to be modified,&#8221;<\/strong> he has calculated.<\/p>\n<h3 data-start=\"2209\" data-end=\"2279\"><strong data-start=\"2213\" data-end=\"2277\">Criticism of the regulatory approach: &#8220;We are not the problem&#8221;.<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p data-start=\"2281\" data-end=\"2641\">One of the most controversial points of the regulation is that it <strong data-start=\"2337\" data-end=\"2417\">focuses exclusively on rental vehicles and motorhomes<\/strong>, without including other types of cars circulating on the island. <strong data-start=\"2480\" data-end=\"2625\">&#8220;We have always said that the problem is not in the rent a car. <\/strong>Our fleet represents only between 10 and 12% of the total traffic in Ibiza,&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2643\" data-end=\"3120\">Cardenas has assured that <strong data-start=\"2669\" data-end=\"2789\">the main factor of traffic saturation on the island is the large number of cars arriving from the mainland<\/strong>. &#8220;We are seeing how many vehicles enter, from workers with their cars to tourists and foreigners who come with their own vehicles,&#8221; he explained. <\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2643\" data-end=\"3120\">&#8220;Nor should we forget the traffic of trucks and cargo vans, which continues to increase because the island is growing and needs more supplies,&#8221; he reminded.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"3122\" data-end=\"3403\">He has also warned that Ibiza&#8217;s infrastructure <strong data-start=\"3175\" data-end=\"3219\">has not adapted to the increase in traffic<\/strong>. <strong data-start=\"3221\" data-end=\"3386\">&#8220;The roads are the same, the island is not growing and we continue to put more cars. The limitation should also include those cars coming from the mainland,&#8221;<\/strong> he insisted.<\/p>\n<h3 data-start=\"3410\" data-end=\"3468\"><strong data-start=\"3414\" data-end=\"3466\">Controls and sanctions: a model yet to be defined<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p data-start=\"3470\" data-end=\"3844\">The Consell de Ibiza has informed that the regulation will have <strong data-start=\"3533\" data-end=\"3592\">a system of cameras in strategic points of the island<\/strong> and an application that will allow to control the fleets of each rent a car company. However, Cardenas has recognized that <strong data-start=\"3720\" data-end=\"3841\">there is<\/strong> still <strong data-start=\"3720\" data-end=\"3841\">no information on how the quotas will be applied and what criteria will be used to assign them to each company<\/strong>. <\/p>\n<p data-start=\"3846\" data-end=\"4051\"><strong data-start=\"3846\" data-end=\"4035\">&#8220;We have a lot of misinformation here. It looks like a formula will be used instead of relying on the vehicles we&#8217;ve had in the past, but we don&#8217;t know the exact details yet,&#8221;<\/strong> he said.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"4053\" data-end=\"4528\">Regarding sanctions, the president of the employers&#8217;
