]]>The incident occurred at 7:07 am, when a Peugeot 206, which was parked on the public road, began to burn for reasons that, for the moment, are unknown.
According to sources from the Fire Department, the rapid intervention prevented the fire from spreading, and at no time was the adjoining forest mass affected, a particularly relevant circumstance given the proximity of the green area to the site of the incident.
A Fire Department vehicle was sent to the scene, as well as members of the Local Police of the Santa Eulària Town Council, who collaborated in the security and control of the area.

]]>La entrada Santa Eulària opens 2026 with a performing arts program for all audiences se publicó primero en La Voz De Ibiza.
]]>The programming is framed, for the most part, in the Platea program of the National Institute of Performing Arts and Music (INAEM), in which Santa Eulària participates for the twelfth consecutive year, allowing the arrival of professional shows to the municipality. The cycle is completed with a proposal starring artists from Ibiza, reinforcing institutional support for local talent.
The first appointment will be on Sunday, January 18, 2026, at 6 p.m., at the Centre Cultural de Jesús, with «Sigues Tortuga», by Xip Xap Teatre. The puppet theater show, recommended for ages 4 and up, lasts 50 minutes and is performed in Catalan. The play adapts the story «Sé tortuga», by Agustín Sánchez Aguilar, Edebé Children’s Literature Award 2023, and proposes a fable starring a rooster and five turtles that invites us to reflect on the importance of living calmly and practicing kindness.
The program will continue on Saturday, March 28, at 7 p.m., at the Palau de Congressos, with «SinSolo», by the Faltan 7 Company. It is a circus show for all audiences, recognized with the FETEN 2019 Award and the First Prize Circada Off 2018. Through comic situations and circus techniques such as vertical and acrobatic bicycle, the proposal raises a reflection on human relationships, group membership and the value of diversity and inclusion.
The third proposal will arrive on Sunday, April 19, also at 7 p.m. at the Palau de Congressos, with «Operetta», by Cor de Teatre. The a cappella opera, recommended for ages 6 and up, combines humor, rhythm and a careful staging to reinterpret, from the theatrical gag, emblematic fragments of the operatic repertoire. From an apparently empty stage and a grand piano, the performers construct a succession of scenes based on works by Verdi, Rossini, Mozart, Bizet, Wagner, Saint-Saëns and Offenbach, bringing opera to new audiences.
The cycle will close on Sunday, April 26, at the Centre Cultural de Jesús, with «Els colors de la música», a show starring the painter Antoni Marí ‘Tirurit’, Pere Prieto on saxophone and Juan F. Ballesteros on piano. The proposal combines live painting and music in a didactic and visual format, in which a painter must illustrate a story in less than an hour inspired by music.
During the performance, colors and emotions build the story, based on the story «The Selfish Giant» by Oscar Wilde, while the audience attends a sonorous journey through styles such as baroque, jazz and pop. Live painting thus becomes a central element of the show, accompanying the narration in front of the audience.

]]>This is the Invisa Hotel Casa Luis, a four-star facility that combines hotel and tourist apartments under the same proposal, as it also integrates Casa Luis by Invisa Apartments, which offers a more versatile accommodation alternative for groups and families.
The new tourist complex, already operational as confirmed by the hotel chain itself on its website, offers studios and apartments for up to six people, in an environment designed for family tourism.

Invisa has presented the new addition as a space that allows «the whole family to enjoy an unforgettable vacation together in Ibiza».
Located in one of the most peaceful surroundings of the municipality, the Invisa Hotel Casa Luis is located in Santa Eulària, just a few minutes from the promenade and the beach. As the hotel chain itself details on its website, the establishment seeks to offer «an unparalleled vacation experience» to those who value calm, nature and access to local points of interest, with a full-service approach and family atmosphere.
The hotel shares spacious facilities with the apartment area and offers the usual services of a four-star hotel: restaurant, common areas, swimming pools and personalized attention.

The incorporation of this complex in Santa Eulària is part of the local expansion process of the Invisa group, which reinforces its presence in the Ibizan tourist market, betting on consolidating its presence on the island through new openings and acquisitions of large facilities that allow it to cater to a family and multigenerational visitor profile.
In total, Invisa already owns nine tourist options on the island: Es Figueral Beach, Invisa Figueral Resort, Invisa Hotel Club Cala Verde, Invisa Hotel Club Cala Blanca in Vila; Invisa Hotel La Cala, Invisa Hotel Casa Luis, Apartamento Casa Luis by Invisa in Santa Eulària; Invisa Hotel Es Pla in Sant Antoni; and Invisa Hotel Ereso in es Canar Beach.
On its website, it remarks that «at Invisa Hotels we offer you the perfect accommodation for your vacations in Ibiza, from our hotels in one of the most popular party areas of Ibiza, San Antonio, to family hotels in Playa d’Es Figueral and Playa Es Canar. We also offer you hotels where you can enjoy a vacation with your partner or friends in Playa de Santa Eulalia».
Invisa also maintains a presence in Madrid (Ac Carlton) and Barcelona (Ac Som).
One of the latest works of Invisa Hotels has been the complete refurbishment of the Hotel Es Pla de Sant Antoni, as part of a repositioning strategy in the accommodation market as adult only.
Thus, it became a four-star hotel in order to attract a more international clientele and improve the quality of the tourist product in the area.
Compared to last year, when the three in Santa Eulària were available, there is only one hotel in the Imerso senior travel program: Invisa Figueral Resort.

]]>As reported by the Armed Forces in a statement, last Sunday agents of the Civil Guard in Santa Eulària who were conducting a checkpoint of vehicles and people on the EI200 in Ibiza stopped a car occupied by two women, who, after being identified, continued the march.
Minutes later, the agents noticed that the flow of vehicles on this road decreased considerably, and observed that several vehicles were taking a country road parallel to the road on which they were conducting the checkpoint.
For this reason, the civil guards verified the existence of a group on Telegram whose alleged purpose is to communicate existing road incidents on the island of Ibiza.
In the message it could be read that at the Santa Eulària traffic circle there was a checkpoint and, therefore, they initiated the relevant steps to find out the identity of the person who had written the message in the group, who turned out to be one of the women who had been identified at the checkpoint minutes before.
Once she was located, she was informed that a report had been filed under the Organic Law 4/2015 of March 30 for the protection of citizen security, specifically in relation to article 36.23 for making unauthorized use of data of members of the Security Forces and Corps, jeopardizing the success of the operation. The penalty ranges from 601 to 30,000 euros.
The Civil Guard has reminded that the dissemination of this type of data relating to the Security Forces and Corps is not permitted and its improper use is punishable by law.

]]>The mayor of Santa Eulària, Carmen Ferrer, has acknowledged that there is a «pending» funding to complete the project and that one of the ways proposed is to resort again to funds from the eco-tax. The aim is to ensure the continuity of the works without compromising the deadlines already set, especially those linked to European funding.
These statements were made in an interview with Radio Ibiza, in which Ferrer said that the amount needed to close the financing is around 10 million euros, although he insisted that it is not yet a formal request and that the process is in the assessment and negotiation phase.
The Palacio de Congresos project has been divided into two phases to secure European funds. The first phase, corresponding to the parking lots, should be completed by June of this year, while the second phase includes the rest of the building. According to the municipal forecast, this phase could be completed between the end of 2027 and the beginning of 2028.
The Consistory recalls that the works are already underway and that the main administrative elements are aligned, such as the approved project, the bidding process and the company awarded the contract. The financing, however, remains the main obstacle to complete an infrastructure considered strategic for the municipality.
The Conference Center is one of the big bets of Santa Eulària to strengthen the tourism of congresses and events, a line that the City Council defends as key to advance in the tourist deseasonalization. In this context, the use of ITS funds is proposed as a tool to close the project definitively.

Once at the door they heard cries for help, so they entered the house and inside they surprised an individual who was carrying in his hands a piece of a door frame with which he threatened the agents with the intention of assaulting them. After urging him to stop his attitude and refusing to do so, he was reduced by the civil guards.
Once the situation was under control, they verified that the house showed numerous damages and interviewed two more male residents of the house, who stated that the other individual, in a very altered and aggressive state, had smashed the bedroom door with a large knife while they were sleeping, making a large hole through which he had tried to attack them, while threatening to kill them.
In addition, once they managed to snatch the knife, the man sprayed them with a can of acid and told them that he would burn them alive. ]]>La entrada This is how the Three Kings parades will be in each municipality of Ibiza and Formentera. se publicó primero en La Voz De Ibiza.
]]>Although the weather forecast has forced to make adjustments in some programs, the municipalities have worked to ensure that the tradition is maintained and that the illusion reaches every corner of the Pitiusas.
In the city of Eivissa, the Three Kings Parade was held on Sunday, January 4, after being brought forward due to the forecast of rain. Their Majesties arrived at the port at 18.00 hours, made the adoration of the Baby Jesus and toured several streets of the city to Vara de Rey in a parade with about 600 participants, themed floats and distribution of 3,000 kilos of candy.
The program continues this Monday, January 5, starting at 6:00 p.m., with a special reception in the Vara de Rey tent, where the Three Wise Men greet the children and collect the last letters.
The activity now moves to Santa Eulària des Riu, where the City Council has chosen to hold all the parades on Tuesday, January 6, maintaining routes and schedules.
Throughout the day, Their Majesties will visit Puig d’en Valls, Jesús, Sant Carles, Santa Eulària and Santa Gertrudis, with music, entertainment and distribution of gifts.
Sant Antoni de Portmany also celebrates the arrival of the Three Wise Men with a parade inspired by the Star of the East, which will tour the town center on Monday, January 5 from 6.30 pm, from Doctor Fleming Avenue to Passeig de ses Fonts, with distribution of gifts and candy.
The visit is completed with stops in Buscastell, Santa Agnès, Sant Mateu and Sant Rafel, and will continue on Tuesday, January 6 with the arrival of the procession to Can Bonet.
In Sant Josep de sa Talaia, the Three Wise Men tour the municipality in two days. On Monday, January 5, Their Majesties will visit the towns of Cala de Bou, Sant Josep, Sant Agustí and Sant Jordi, while the program is completed on Tuesday, January 6 with their arrival in Es Cubells.
The City Council is constantly monitoring the weather evolution for possible changes.

In the north of the island, Sant Joan de Labritja welcomes the Three Wise Men on Monday, January 5 at 6.30 pm in the square of Sant Miquel de Balansat, with a parade through the streets of the village and distribution of gifts.
The celebration continues on Tuesday, January 6, when Their Majesties will arrive simultaneously to the nuclei of Sant Joan and Sant Llorenç from 18.00 hours, with events designed for the enjoyment of families.
Finally, in Formentera, the arrival of the Three Wise Men is maintained despite the unstable weather, with a program adapted to ensure safety. Their Majesties visit the island on Monday, January 5, without maritime arrival and with events in closed or protected areas in El Pilar de la Mola, Sant Ferran and Sant Francesc.
The celebration culminates on Tuesday, January 6, Epiphany, with the traditional masses and the distribution of gifts in Sant Francesc after the religious celebration.

]]>In the case of Ibiza, the parade will finally be held this Sunday, January 4 from 18.00 hours, taking advantage of a more favorable weather window in the afternoon, after a morning marked by rains that will be subsiding. The decision has been taken in view of a clearly worse forecast for tomorrow Monday, when more rainfall and a scenario of greater instability are expected.
The City Council of Santa Eulària des Riu has decided to move all the parades scheduled for Monday, January 5 to Tuesday, January 6, due to the rain forecast of the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet). The change does not affect neither the routes, nor the schedules, nor the departure and arrival points, which remain unchanged.
Thus, the program is configured with parades at 10.30 am in Puig d’en Valls, 12.30 pm in Jesus, 17.00 pm in Sant Carles, 18.30 pm in Santa Eulària and 19.30 pm in Santa Gertrudis. The City Council has warned that, if bad weather persists on Tuesday, the reception of the Three Wise Men will be moved to the Palau de Congressos d’Eivissa, a circumstance that will be communicated through official channels.
In Formentera, the Consell Insular has decided to maintain the visit of the Three Wise Men, but introducing significant changes in the program for Monday, January 5 due to the forecast of heavy rains and strong winds associated with the Francis squall.
Among the main modifications, the maritime arrival at the port of La Savina has been cancelled and the visits have been carried out directly in the different villages and parishes, in closed or more protected spaces. The program includes events in El Pilar de la Mola, Sant Ferran and Sant Francesc, with children’s performances, distribution of gifts and specific measures to ensure an inclusive experience, such as sections without music or lights for people with sensory hypersensitivity.
These changes occur in a context of widespread weather instability in the Balearic Islands. The Emergency Service 112 has activated the Severity Index 0 (IG0) of the Meteobal Plan throughout the archipelago before the yellow warning for rain issued by Aemet, with recommendations to exercise extreme caution both at home and in circulation.
The administrations have agreed that the safety of families and children has been the main criterion when modifying the programs, and they do not rule out new decisions if the evolution of the weather makes it advisable.

]]>La entrada Limited-price housing, Ibiza’s bid to develop the housing market for residents se publicó primero en La Voz De Ibiza.
]]>In addition to setting limits to growth in order to avoid a situation of collapse, the island president, Vicent Marí, has gone into the search for the necessary legal tools to «curb» the construction of free housing, which usually end up in the hands of foreigners due to the out-of-reach values of Ibizans.
And one of the bets is precisely the Limited Price Housing. That is, a type of subsidized housing that is not subject to direct public subsidies, but is subject to amaximum sale or rental price set by the administration.
«What is proposed would be to promote more private housing at a limited price for residents, as the VPL,» have recognized from the Consell a La Voz de Ibiza.
Along these lines, they remarked that «it is a measure that needs to be analyzed«.
This is an intermediate category between free housing and subsidized housing (VPO). Of the latter, there are several projects in the pipeline in Ibiza, although the timing and progress do not coincide with the urgency of the housing crisis.
With below-market prices, the VPLs seek to promote access to housing in areas where the real estate market is under pressure, without direct government intervention in the form of subsidies, but through price regulation.
In return, developers usually benefit from urban planning advantages -such as increasing the buildability and use of plots- or tax advantages that make this type of investment attractive.
The public administrations set a maximum price per square meter, both for sale and for rent, while the buyer must use the property as a habitual and permanent residence, at least for a certain period of time. In the meantime, it cannot be sold or rented freely for a period of time if it is not at the limited price.
Law 3/2024, of May 3, on urgent housing measures, establishes the possibility of creating more affordable residential supply with regulated maximum sale and rental prices.
Article 2 creates a new figure, which is the limited price housing (VPL), «of a permanent nature, which has as its most important characteristic a limitation of its maximum purchase and rental price».
This proposal «is fundamentally a housing that, in addition to the price limitation, has other conditions that differentiate it from an ordinary free housing, such as the limitation to a maximum surface area of 90 sq. m., the use as the habitual and permanent residence of the users or beneficiaries, and that they cannot be holders of full ownership or of a real right of use and enjoyment over any free housing or housing subject to any protection regime, located in the Spanish State».
The regulation establishes that the VPL «must constitute the habitual and permanent domicile of its users or beneficiaries, and in no case may they be marketed under the tourist stay modality provided for in the tourism legislation».
In order to have access to limited price housing, in any of the modalities of access to these dwellings, «the beneficiary must be a natural person of legal age, resident in the Balearic Islands, and may not be the holder of full ownership or of a real right of use and enjoyment over more than 50% of any free housing or housing subject to any protection regime, unless the housing becomes unsuitable for personal or family circumstances or other objective circumstances duly accredited».
In addition, it establishes that «the term during which these dwellings will be subject to the established limitations and will maintain the status of price-limited housing will be permanent».
This has led to the development of different projects. For example, in the town of Manacor in Mallorca, the first complete development of affordable housing has been inaugurated, the result of the transformation of spaces that were not previously residential (for example, former commercial premises) into 10 affordable apartments for residents.
The purchase prices of these homes are between approximately 119,000 and 164,000 euros, which makes them very different from the traditional free market in the Balearic Islands.
In the neighborhood of Es Pil-larí, in Palma, the Government is building VPL promotions as part of the housing shock plan. The project includes 88 new homes, with apartments that are part of this affordable figure, with prices ranging from about 169,000 to 275,000 euros, depending on the surfaces.
One of the first examples of this type of action in Ibiza is in Santa Eulària des Riu, where the City Council has awarded the UTE formed by the Fundació Privada Salas per l’Accessibilitat and Salas Promohabit S.L.U. the construction of a 90-housing development intended entirely for rent in the area of s’Olivera, in Puig d’en Valls.
The project, with a total investment of 21.09 million euros (VAT included), will be developed on two municipally-owned plots of land that the City Council will transfer by means of a 75-year surface right, so that, once this period is over, both the land and the buildings will revert to the municipal patrimony. Construction is scheduled to begin in June 2026, with an approximate completion period of 31 months and an estimated delivery date of January 2028.
The mayor of Santa Eulària des Riu, Carmen Ferrer, stressed that this award is «another step in the commitment of the City Council to expand the supply of affordable housing and ensure that residents can develop their life project here». The action is part of the municipal plan ‘Santa Eulària Crea Futur’, aimed at facilitating access to housing for young people, seniors and families through sustainable and public management formulas.
To qualify for one of these homes, it will be necessary to meet three general requirements: to be a tax resident in Spain, not to own any property in the country and to be registered in Santa Eulària des Riu for at least 10 years of the last 20 years. From that threshold, half an additional point will be awarded for each year of residence, up to a maximum of five points.
The ranking system prioritizes young people, senior citizens and families. In the case of family units, one point will be added for each dependent minor. In addition, seven additional points will be granted to applicants between 25 and 40 years of age or over 65 years of age. Access to housing will also be subject to minimum and maximum annual gross income limits, set between three and ten times the IPREM, depending on the type of housing.

]]>La entrada An urban planning moratorium hovers over Ibiza: Vicent Marí has it on the table se publicó primero en La Voz De Ibiza.
]]>By halting the construction of free housing in multi-family buildings in certain areas, the Consell intends to have time to modify regulations and free up resources in the sector to focus them on «housing for local people».
The Consell has detailed to La Voz de Ibiza that «the limitation of free housing construction will necessarily entail the possibility of prioritizing the construction of housing for Ibizans with a minimum of residence on the island». This would be concretized with the VPL projects promoted by private developers.
These temporary measures -generally have a limited duration of between 6 months and two years- are usually accompanied by other measures such as the review of urban planning or structural issues.
This could include a relaxation in the densities to be built and the possibility of exceeding the permitted height, something contemplated in Decree Law 6/2023, on urgent housing measures.
In addition, from the Consell have detailed that «there are currently figures in the housing decree-law that fit the seasonal worker. The use of these figures should be promoted, for example, the possibility of using the tourist plots for these workers».
In addition, they added that the consistory is making «several efforts in this regard: it has ceded to the IBAVI a site that until now the institution treasured in the street Hort de sa Fruita de Eivissa and that will be used primarily for health, teachers and agents.
In addition, a space for the Guardia Civil is being built in Sa Coma and a residence for students and teachers is also planned there.
As advanced by La Voz La Voz de Ibiza, pavilion 202 of the old military complex of Sa Coma is being converted into the future base of the Maritime Service of the Civil Guard in Ibiza, a historical claim to provide the island with a permanent presence of this detachment.
The project includes 12 dwellings of different types (one, two and three bedrooms) designed specifically to house the members of the Guardia Civil del Mar who will work in Ibiza, as well as offices, meeting rooms, training areas and armory.
Once the work is completed – estimated for July 2026 – the base is expected to house approximately 30 agents, with housing integrated into the infrastructure itself.
The rehabilitation of this building has a budget of more than 4.5 million euros, of which almost 4 million come from the Sustainable Tourism Tax (eco-tax), in an effort to use these funds for safety, maritime protection and coastal conservation projects.

]]>He has done so from the institution with the least competences in the matter and taking an obvious political risk, a few months before the May 2027 elections, by putting on the table measures that break with the classical liberal ideology of his party and that involve intervening in the real estate market.
It has much to lose and little to gain in a move that breaks with the short-termism that characterizes the political class of recent times. In a way, he is repeating the move to limit the entry of vehicles and setting the pace of the discourse of the Balearic PP.
The move was not improvised. Marí intentionally took advantage of the traditional end-of-year interviews granted to Diario de Ibiza and Periódico de Ibiza y Formentera to launch messages of high political voltage -urban moratorium, although he was careful not to use a term that raises blisters among his ranks, limits to growth, residents first, Limited Price Housing- with a clear objective: to take the bull by the horns .
In his institutional speech recorded in Sa Coma he already slipped some ideas, but without as much depth as the limitation to the construction of free housing.
Sources close to the president insist that there is no plan designed nor a closed package of measures behind these statements. There is no timetable or definitive roadmap. What does exist is a conscious political maneuver that forces all the agents involved to take a position: city councils, professional sectors, political parties and higher administrations.
The reaction has been immediate. The PSOE of Ibiza has accused Marí of inoperativeness and of launching «empty words», being dismayed by a speech that was not expected from the PP.
United Podemos and Vox, on the other hand, have not made any statement so far.
In parallel, some city councils have shown their willingness to explore a possible urban moratorium, while architects and builders have expressed their outright rejection of any suspension of free housing, as reported by Periódico de Ibiza.
After Reyes, contacts with social agents and opinion leaders will be intensified. There will also be collective meetings through the social dialogue mechanisms.
The need that Vicent Marí has referred to is to provide housing for residents. He has not been the only one. Coincidence or not, in her New Year’s institutional speech, the president of the Balearic Government, Marga Prohens, placed as a priority the need to guarantee housing for local people.
And the housing problem no longer affects only vulnerable groups, but increasingly residents, middle class families, skilled workers and young people born or rooted on the island who can not live where they work. Ibizans who can not return or Ibizans who leave.
The diagnosis handled by the president of the Consell is shared by many of the actors involved: housing can jeopardize the successful model of Ibiza.
Free housing is nowadays accessible almost exclusively to the upper classes from countries with a higher per capita income, and in many cases it becomes a second residence.
The prohibitive cost of land, the high construction costs and the legitimate expectations of the promoters make the prices of apartments go through the roof. Both for buying and renting.
The luxury housing that is being built does not solve the housing problem and, far from relieving the pressure, consumes resources and public services – water, health, security – for which the island has neither sufficient capacity nor a stable labor force.
The debate, sources familiar with the Consell’s approach underline, is not about nationalities, but about real use and roots: in a limited territory, every house that is not destined to habitual residence is one less house for those who live and work in Ibiza. And there are problems to find labor, both qualified and unqualified. And unworthy shantytowns, also in winter.
All sectors are suffering from a lack of labor due to the increased needs that have resulted from the transformation of the island towards a model of visitor with greater purchasing power. The increase in the category of hotels, restaurants and nightclubs has meant a greater demand for labor. And for more months.
This reality also affects teachers, health care providers and security forces.
For this reason, the president’s slap on the wrist has affected businessmen and public administrations.
There is a generalized idea that the market is not capable of solving the problem on its own and that unlimited growth is not possible because this only makes the problem worse, since the housing that is built does not meet the needs.
For this reason, the president spoke of limiting the construction of free housing and prioritizing Affordable Housing.
Beyond the price or urban planning, there is a factor that conditions any scenario and that cannot be ignored: Ibiza does not have water to continue growing. The proof is the imposition of Water Resources to the growth contemplated in the General Urban Development Plan (PGOU) of the city of Ibiza.
The solution, via a fourth desalination plant, will take a long time. A decade is the estimated time for it to come into service.
Measures such as the fight against illegal tourist rentals, although necessary, have not had a significant effect on the residential market on their own. In a way, it has been a disappointment, since there were high hopes that these homes would be destined for the residential market, something that, at least for the time being, has not been the case.
It cannot be overlooked that the difficulty in attracting workers ends up causing an inflationary spiral that reduces the competitiveness of the destination, since labor costs increase through salaries or through housing paid by the employer. And it feeds tourism-phobia, another risk to be taken into account.
Not to mention the barrier to importing talent that has the ability to decide where to work.
The debate is also taking place in a complex legal and jurisdictional framework. The European Union does not allow prohibiting the purchase of homes by EU citizens or applying discriminatory tax measures.
Municipalities are responsible for urban planning through general plans and subsidiary regulations, which take years to change. They can also increase heights and facilitate the conversion of premises into dwellings.
The Consell can act on the PTI, but it is the tool with the least real impact on this problem.
The Balearic Parliament has the margin to modify the Housing Law and the Government to approve decrees, while the central Government, with a great capacity for intervention, remains practically absent from the debate, weighed down by its parliamentary weakness and by an ideological approach centered on the tenant versus the landlord and which avoids reinforcing legal security in the face of non-payment and squatting so that vacant housing can be put on the residential rental market.
The housing problem is not exclusive to Ibiza, although in peninsular territories the perfect storm does not occur, since it is always possible to build a few kilometers further away from the city center for popular classes as it has been done all my life. This is one more issue on Pedro Sánchez’s table.
Here the role of the Consell de Ibiza is more political than effective. It is the government of the island but without regulatory capacity or competences.
According to La Voz de Ibiza, the presidentdoes not plan to intervene in the single-family or multi-family housing market in certain high purchasing power areas.
The focus is on the residential market where it is still possible to act and, especially, on the need to build housing for the middle class, both for rental and purchase.
The administration, Marí assumes, cannot solve the problem alone. That the IBAVI builds rental housing for the most disadvantaged groups is necessary, essential in fact, but absolutely insufficient. The vacuum is in the middle class, expelled from the free market completely and to which the administration is not giving answers.
In fact, it is incapable of responding alone. It needs the involvement of developers and builders, sectors that have to make money by building blocks of subsidized housing.
Although he has not said so publicly and the president is reluctant to do so, all roads lead to a moratorium on free housing so that the resources of the construction sector can be focused on the construction of Limited Price Housing in plots qualified as such or requalified and in transition zones, as provided for in the regional regulations approved by the Government of Marga Prohens.

]]>The emblematic Teatro España will once again become the epicenter of New Year’s Eve in Santa Eulària. For the second consecutive year, the venue will host The Great New Year’s Eve Party during the early hours of January 1, from 00:30 am.
Specially decorated for the occasion, the theater will be transformed into a large festive space where live music will be the protagonist. The band Groove Garage will be in charge of opening the night, followed by DJ José Díaz, who will set the rhythm for the first hours of 2026.
The celebration will also feature a light show and animation by Akrobatik, creating a dynamic atmosphere designed for different audiences. The party will be free of charge and will last until 4:30 am.
The main novelty of the program comes with the incorporation of the Great Youth New Year’s Eve Party, a proposal designed specifically for children and adolescents. It will take place on the evening of December 30, from 18:00 to 22:00 hours.
This initiative will allow the youngest children to celebrate the arrival of the new year a day earlier, in a safe and age-appropriate environment, while facilitating the active participation of families in the festive program.
With this expansion, Santa Eulària reinforces its commitment to a New Year’s Eve for everyone, combining music, entertainment and new proposals that seek to consolidate itself as a festive reference for both residents and visitors to the municipality during these dates.

]]>La entrada Vicent Marí’s hard hand on housing: downsizing, residents first, housing for workers and zero tolerance for squatters in Ibiza se publicó primero en La Voz De Ibiza.
]]>In a way, it is a complete change of model because the current model has collapsed and the market is not providing satisfactory answers. It is based on three axes: slowing growth; prioritizing residents and companies and administrations to house their workers; and to reinforce legal security against squatting and non-payment.
Vicent Marí has developed these ideas in interviews granted to Diario de Ibiza and Periódico de Ibiza y Formentera, in which he places the housing emergency as one of the main social and economic risks of the island.
One of the clearest messages from the president of the Consell de Ibiza is the need to set limits to growth. Marí warns that Ibiza is approaching a situation of collapse if the current model is not rethought and argues that the island must begin to assume that it cannot continue to grow at the current rate.
In a way, the fight against illegal tourist rentals through the Office against Intrusiveness that has given such good results this summer is the first leg of the containment. Vicent Marí recalled that 14,500 places have been removed from the tourist rental market, which has meant 7,000 fewer visitors per day and, consequently, less business for the complementary offer.
In this context, he slips the idea that the new housing to be built should be exclusively for residents, in order to prevent the local population from being forced to leave the island for unaffordable prices.
In any case, this idea clashes with the legal system of the European Union and the sacrosanct freedom of goods, persons and capital, and is only viable for housing that has some type of public protection, either purchase or rental, either public, private or mixed.
Marí links the housing crisis to the loss of resident population and argues that public policies should focus on guaranteeing access to housing for those who live and work in Ibiza year-round.
His discourse points to a clear shift: less quantitative growth and more resident protection, in a stressed market where housing has ceased to fulfill its social function and has become an inaccessible good for large sectors of the population.
One of the strongest aspects of Marí’s statements is the message addressed to the business community. The president of the Consell de Ibiza considers it unacceptable that employed people live in shantytowns or substandard housing.
«Whoever has a job must have a decent place,» he says in Diario de Ibiza, and stresses that it cannot be normalized that companies hire workers who live badly in settlements.
Marí argues that companies should assume their responsibility and find housing for their workers if they know they are in substandard housing, not only as a matter of dignity, but also of safety.
The tug of war is extensive to the administrations. In this sense, it highlights the efforts of the Consell de Ibiza and the Govern in the construction of the residence for the Guardia Civil del Mar and the future student residence associated with the School of Hospitality and the School of Tourism. He claims to the Government the construction of the residence for national police officers in the plot annexed to the police station of Ibiza.
In this line, the president of the Consell proposes the creation of residences for workers, especially seasonal workers, with adequate services and conditions. It also recalls that homelessness affects essential public services, such as security forces.
The Government’s housing emergency decree facilitates the construction of residences for workers on vacant tourist land that can hardly be destined to the market in a horizon without new tourist beaches.
For the residents, he recalls that the Balearic Government is promoting about a thousand houses, although he recognizes that they will not be immediate and that their execution will take three or four years.
The third pillar of Marí’s speech is legal certainty. In Periódico de Ibiza y Formentera, the president of the Consell directly links squatting and non-payment with the withdrawal of housing from the rental market.
«The solution is not only to build more, but also to return vacant or illegal housing to the residential rental market. For this to happen, it is essential that there is legal certainty,» he says.
Marí warns that without clear rules that allow eviction in case of squatting or non-payment, many small owners with bad experiences will not rent again, which explains why there are currently many empty homes in Ibiza.

]]>La entrada 24 months for Ibiza to stop praying for a guaranteed drinking water supply se publicó primero en La Voz De Ibiza.
]]>Until this work is completed, the system will continue to operate with no real safety margin. As happened this summer, a major breakdown in any of the desalination plants during the high season would jeopardize the supply, since production is working at maximum capacity and the only available buffer is that offered by the reservoirs. There is water in storage for a few hours. Maybe a few days.
The project will allow the Santa Eulària desalination plant to increase from 16,000 to 22,000 cubic meters per day, almost 40% more, through the incorporation of a fourth reverse osmosis rack.
This is not a local improvement: the island’s three desalination plants are interconnected, so the new flow can be redistributed according to the needs of the system as a whole.
This point is key because the Ibiza desalination plant cannot be expanded, which makes Santa Eulària the only structural pillar capable of absorbing the growth in demand, until the fourth desalination plant is available for which it will be many years, perhaps a decade.
The Sant Antoni plant, on the other hand, will be reinforced with a mobile desalination plant, a backup solution designed for emergencies and consumption peaks, but insufficient to solve the basic problem. It will provide an additional 1,000 cubic meters per day.
The project comes after years of sustained increase in the consumption of desalinated water, caused by the accelerated deterioration of aquifers, both in quantity and quality. According to Abaqua data, Ibiza has gone from consuming about 5 cubic hectometers per year in 2009 to almost 13 in 2024, and everything indicates that in 2025 it will exceed 14 cubic hectometers.
This evolution has led to an increasing number of months of operation at the limit of their capacity, reducing to a minimum the capacity to react to breakdowns, drought episodes or peaks in demand associated with the tourist season.
Meanwhile, the fourth desalination fourth desalination plant in Ibiza remains on paper. It has no defined location, no technical project, and no timetable. To date, it is no more than a political commitment, with no real impact on the island’s production capacity.
For this reason, the Santa Eulària extension has become the centerpiece to prevent the system from collapsing in the coming years.
The project includes the remodeling of the seawater intake, new pipelines, filters and high-pressure equipment, a new reverse osmosis train, improvements in the pumping and distribution of treated water, as well as the adaptation of the electrical and control installations and the brine discharge system.
Everything has been designed with criteria of minimum environmental impact and, above all, with a priority objective: to keep the plant operational during the works, aware that Ibiza cannot afford prolonged stoppages.
The base bidding budget amounts to 9.99 million euros, including VAT. In addition, there is a technical assistance contract for construction management and health and safety coordination for 314,600 euros, with a total term of 25 months. The execution period of the works will be 23 months, once awarded and authorized by the Consell de Govern.
Until the expansion becomes a reality, Ibiza will continue to rely on a system stressed to the maximum, where any relevant failure in a desalination plant during peak demand months could have immediate consequences.
The expansion of Santa Eulària, together with the mobile desalination plant of Sant Antoni and a greater incorporation of desalinated water by the municipalities, will alleviate the pressure on the aquifers and improve the capacity to respond to emergencies.
But the message is clear: for the next 24 months, Ibiza will continue to pray that nothing goes wrong. Only then, if all goes according to plan, can the island begin to leave behind a water management based on the permanent limit.
Unless the rains recharge the aquifers, as the torrential rains of the last two weeks have done.

The person in charge of bringing luck to dozens of neighbors has been Susana González Báez, ONCE saleswoman since 2005, who usually distributes in her kiosk in Paseo de S’Alamera, in Santa Eulària.
Excited, she confessed after learning the result: «I have made more than one person happy today, and that is what satisfies me the most,» she said.
According to González herself, part of the winning coupons were sold to regular customers in the area, places where she usually leaves coupons every week.
Although it is not the first time that Susana gives out prizes, it is the most relevant occasion of her career: «I had never given out so much money,» she said. Her excited gesture has become one of the images of the day in Santa Eulària, where the news has spread like wildfire among neighbors and merchants.
Paseo de S’Alamera, one of the busiest areas of the municipality, has witnessed the commotion and joy generated by this historic distribution, which will remain engraved in the memory of many residents.

]]>One of the main changes introduced by the new regulations is the regulation of the development of plenary debates. For the first time, maximum intervention times are established for the discussion of motions. Thus, the initial presentation will have a maximum of five minutes, while the groups will have three minutes in the first turn of reply. If a second turn is requested, this will be optional and will be limited to three minutes for the proposer and one minute for the rest of the groups.
During the plenary session, the Training Plan for public employees of the City Council of Santa Eulària des Riu for 2026 has also been approved. This plan includes an offer of more than 2,600 hours of training with the aim of strengthening the technical, operational, administrative and legal training of municipal staff. Most of the training will be online, with more than 2,500 hours, while about a hundred hours will be taught in person and will be focused on practical and operational content.
The training includes key areas such as police matters and cross-cutting content, including the implementation of a new computerized administrative tool for processing files. This will streamline procedures and improve communication with citizens in a more efficient and transparent way.
Likewise, the Plenary has given the green light to the modification of the Tax Ordinance regulating the fee for the collection, reception and adoption of pets. The most relevant change affects the adoption of dogs, since the differentiation by age existing until now is eliminated. The new wording establishes a single rate of 65 euros for all dogs, which means a reduction in the case of animals under three years of age and a simplification of the administrative procedure. The aim is to facilitate adoptions and encourage a greater number of animals to find a new home.
As is tradition, the December plenary session also served to bid farewell to the institutional year together with the workers of the consistory. After the session, members of the government team, municipal employees, representatives of different sectors of society and neighbors of the municipality shared the traditional «torrada de sobrasada» and the Christmas toast.
As for the voting, several items on the agenda were approved unanimously, while others were approved with different support and abstentions from the political groups, and two proposals were also rejected.
